Mask Off!!!

Post by Slinky » Mon Aug 11, 2008 7:11 am

Close to 5000 hrs of xPAP therapy and guess who woke up w/her mask off this morning??

The 4th time since I started CPAP. The first two times I distinctly remember taking it off, getting up, going to the bathroom, laying back down, promising myself I'd put the mask on in a minute .....

The third time I had no memory of taking it off. Last night, tho, I do remember taking it off, going to the bathroom and I'll put it on in a minute.

None of these episodes were close together. The first two occurred relatively early on in starting CPAP therapy. The third on quite a long time ago. But after all this while??? Sheesh!

Slinky,

Perhaps the Doctors and the DME's have give you a mask that they can control with a remote just to get even with you for all the aggravation you have caused them.

LOL.

By george, Amos! You just may be right! It backfired on them tho!

I did manage to put ole faithful back on and get another hour of sleep before the dogs and cats insisted I get up!! And I don't feel bad at all today. (Of course, I don't wanna push my luck and do that two nights in row!!! - And the day "ain't" over yet). I wonder why I didn't just put ole faithful back on??? Talk about lay-zee!!

Same thing happened to me last night, could it be the moon phase? A waxing gibbous at 75%

The moon phase! That's it!!!!

Probably also explains why I was tossing and kicking so hard last night I tore a big old gash in my bottom sheet.

Sheesh, and these were spendy things too! And I have only had them for a year! Drat QVC!!!!

LOL,
Babs

I am more apt to sleep through the night now since being on CPAP treatment. However, my husband usually gets up once a night or so, a lingering effect of prostate cancer treatment. and in the past I would automatically get up if I woke up. Now, rather than go through the hassle of taking off the mask and having to put it back on again, if I can just go back to sleep, I'll do that, and hold off until morning for the bathroom trip, it usually works. Of course, if it were a dire need, I'd have to get up.
Another lazy habit I have...I will no longer lay down to take naps in the day time. I will watch tv in the late afternoon, and nod off for awhile sitting up, hoping that because I'm not lying down there will be no apnea spells. That happened this afternoon, and I think I woke up because I needed to take a breath. So dozing while sitting up may not be the best solution
I always enjoy your posts Slinky. I'm now in 10th month of treatment and still learning.

Ah ha! A "CHEATER" in our midst. A sitter-upper cheater.

Yup, it MUST be the phase of the moon!

You need good ole, JC Penney percale sheets, Babs. Those things wear like cast iron and last FOREVER! That's all I've ever used. Learned it from my mom. 2 sets per bed and I've had them last 15 years.

Oh I can sure relate to that 'promising to put it back on' situation..happens to me a lot Then when I wake back up it is usually around 4:30 or so, and I have trouble getting back to sleep once I put the mask back on. Every nite is a 'crap shoot' as to whether or not I will go the distance.

Thank goodness, I don't have any problem going back to sleep when I put my mask back on. And, obviously I didn't have trouble going back to sleep W/O my mask last night! tsk, tsk

And to think, my problem was I could NOT sleep before CPAP. At least not at night! Forever to get to sleep, sleep 2 hours, wake 2 hours, sleep 2 hours, wake 2 hours, all night long. Yech! Don't even wanna remember those nights!

I'd go 3-4 weeks on 3-4 hours of interrupted sleep a night and then one night or so a month I'd crash when I walked in the door from work and not wake until my husband rousted me outta bed or off the sofa to go to work the next morning.

Sheesh indeed! I've never done this but if I did, I think I'd feel similar to you. Kind of like peering down at your mask and wondering how the heck it got there!

My mother-in-law blames everything on the change in barometric pressure ! Bad tempers, arthritis flare ups, you name it..it was caused by the barometric rise or drop! So maybe our evil twin who is trying to undermind us comes out where the barometer changes? MY evil twin is neat..just last night I took off my mask, turned off the cpap, lifted my humidifier lid and laid my FF mask beside my machine with the headgear stuffed inside the mask !

Ach! A "neat freak" for a twin! Can I borrow her long enough to get my house and filing back in order?
