Opinions on Heated Humidifier-Aussie Heated Hose Combo

Post by JL » Fri Jul 15, 2005 7:26 am

Anyone thats currently using a heated humidifier combined with the Aussie heated hose... Curious as to how it "feels" in comparison to the heated humidifier alone. Rain-out aside what else is it accomplishing?

Use the hose with heated humidifier on my Spirit with the Activa mask. Besides eliminating rainout it surrounds my nose with warmer air from the start. Even if I warmed up my humidifier in advance (a Spirit function) the air never seemd as comfortable. When I use my Swift my nostrils don't hurt as much either.

Mike

So at any given heated humidifier setting it is warmer air when using the Aussie?

Jim,

Yes at all settings. I like my air really warm so I use the highest setting to begin with. But I have tried lower settings to see how it feels. While this is not an exact analysis, without the heated hose and using my humidifier at 6, it feels like my humidifier at 4 with the heated hose.

The primary reason I got it was because of rain out. I had to set my humidifier at 3 in order to avoid rainout with my covered hose. I not only got to set my humidity higher but it ended up being warmer.

Besides the benefit of "more warmth" if a person likes that the way mikemoran and many others do, there's also the benefit of "less warmth but getting good humidified air" if a person doesn't want the air to feel warmer...just wants it to get the humidity all the way to the nostrils without losing it in drip, drip, drips.

mike wanted more warmth.

I like very little warmth, but do want some humidification.

The heated hose is a miracle. It simply helps the air traveling through the hose to hold (and deliver all the way) whatever moisture it starts out with. Whether you want it very warm or barely warm by the time it reaches you, you can adjust the heat on your humidifier to do that.

Before, since I didn't want to feel much warmth and was keeping my heated humidifier turned down as low as possible without having it "off", I really wasn't getting much humidity. Since it was starting off barely warm, the air probably lost what little moisture it was trying to carry during the 6 foot journey through the air hose.

Now, with the humidifier still on low, I'm actually getting the benefit of humidification. Less drying out, and with only the slightest feel of more warmth to the air.

In addition to preventing rainout when the heat is turned up, the Aussie heated hose makes a variety of warmth/humidification combos possible just by tweaking the heat setting on the humidifier.

Rested Gal...great explanation. So my current setting of 3 on Remstar HH could be reduced to say 2 with the Aussie and I'd have more humidity but no more heat than I currently have? That would definitely get me what I want, more humidity without more heat. I could be a convert soon.
