I just couldn't sleep w/mask last night

Post by quest496 » Tue Jul 12, 2005 7:51 am

So is it common for people to randomly just simply not be able to sleep with the mask on? I have been annoyed by my mask in the week and a half I've been using the machine, but as I am always tired, I always fall asleep within about ten-fifteen minutes.

Last night, I was exhausted, but I just simply could not fall asleep, tossing and turning, which as you all know is not as easy with mask on, and after an hour, I just had to take it off. I was asleep in about ten minutes I think and didn't wake up till this morning. I probably had episodes, but at least I slept.

Is this normal? I don't have insomnia normally. And it didn't make me dread wearing the mask tonight.

It felt kind of like that night when you just have to send the kids to grandmas house so you can sleep in peace.

Quest, yep, I don't think your experience is out of the ordinairy.
Going to sleep with a mask is not natural and takes some time to adjust to. I remember my early weeks and I had similar nights, unable to get to sleep, sometimes resulting in consciously taking off the mask.
These days (some 7 months later) I barely notice the mask and generally get to sleep pretty quickly.
There are of course many different types of masks and it does help to find one (or more) that particularly suits you
Do keep at it.

Same experience as the Englander. Took me months of seeming insomnia to get used to the mask. Spend the time trying to figure out what mask is best for you. Hang in there and try not to get discouraged.
