RespCare Universal Hybrid is extremely noisy

Post by DBinAZ » Fri Jul 18, 2008 3:32 pm

I just gor my Hybrid today from cpap.com. This thing is very very noisy. I don't get it. It's the vent on the elbow. I read the review here and she said that it's really quiet unless the hose routes overhead, which it is not. Can someone explain this to me? I don't think I am doing anything wrong.

THanks,
D

It doesn't have a vent on the elbow! Take it apart and put it all back together again. The most common noisy leak is when the silicone mouthpiece is not fully seated in the plastic frame. The vents are holes near the top of the mask in the plastic. It is a quiet mast unless you turn the elbow straight up and get it directly in front of the vent holes.

It's the anti-asphyxiation.

I assume the flap should close when the unit is on? I don't think mine is.

ok, took it all apart. It was already put together when I got except for strap. Put it back together with the M mouth piece. Made sure it was all fitting perfect and still the tornado like sound from that elbow. Once i place my fingers over that, it's really quiet. I don't get it.

There a little flap where that anti-asphyxiation hole is on the elbow. When you're wearing the mask and the air is on, that flap should completely cover the hole and not be noisy. At least mine doesn't make any noise. I agree with ww, it is a quiet mask as long as you don't turn the elbow straight up. Sounds like something is wrong with yours, especially if that flap doesn't close when it should.

Cover the hose inlet and breath in and out and the anti-asphyxiation valve should close with a pop when you breath out and open when you breathe in. It should close with a pop when you put 10 cm on it. Unless it is not put together correctly, it is hard to see how it would not seal.

How does it dampen the response from the machine, and does that include the Liberty that's made basically the same way? Are you talking about all machines including cpaps (cpaps don't really respond, do they, just provide a set pressure and report results in the data).

My numbers with cpap and the Hybrid are great.

Just curious about this.

Something similar happened to my Liberty 2 weeks ago. Started making all kinds of noise at the anti-asphyxiation vent. While I was away, no less!! Took it apart, thoroughly cleaned it and put it back together...silent.

Mine will get stuck about once a week, I will exhale and inhale with some force when the cpap is on and it pops up in place. Make sure the anti-asphyxiation flap is not damaged. Good luck
