ResMed Humidaire

Post by capt » Sun Jul 10, 2005 7:11 pm

Does anyone use the ResMed Humidaire, not the built in Humidaire 2i for the ResMed AutoSpirit? I have looked at the built in unit and it does not look like it would be easy to fill and service, so I was wondering about the separarte unit. Thanks!

I used it for 2 years before I sold my Spirit.. No problems. Just get yourself a funnel with a flex hose and stick it in the outlet. No need to ever remove the tank or disassemble if using distilled water. Keep it on your Spirit.

Cheers,

I am very happy with my humidaire....easy to fill, easy to clean (I only use distilled water) and flat on top (which is where my autopap sits). I find its large flat water surface good, and it holds an adequate amount of water for several days. Some of the built-in units may be convenient for travel but appear very small so I prefer my humidaire (as I don't travel often).

I have a Humidaire 2i and it comes off the Autospirit I have....I remove it every couple of days and clean it and I find it easy to put back together and easy to fill up. It is the only one I know though so I really don't know what the others are like. I was told by the company I bought it from that they should to be cleaned every two day...do you think I can do it less often?

I have the S7 Lightweight and the Humidaire tank comes off.

I like it because it is easy to remove and extremely easy to fill. I use distilled water. We even pack a gal. jug of distilled water when we travel, saves the hassel of finding a store and paying twice the price.

Everyone has to do what they feel comfortable doing. I feel comfortable simply adding distilled water as needed to mine. I rarely ever dump the water out or "clean" my heated humidifier. I think it stays very clean by using only distilled water - stays crystal clear, anyway.

The Humidaire H2i has a stainless steel pan in it. You can see it when you undo the clips and open it up fully. As long as you are using distilled water you probably don't need to clean it every two days. Just inspect it weekly and see if you have any build up in the pan. Best to empty it every day and refill as needed.

The integrated one does pack well and I have found it very easy to use.

I think I will take your advice and check the humidifier once a week or so....I do use distilled water also. Now I know the mask has to be cleaned quite often...I do that every second day and the hose and headgear once a week...what about everyone else...how often do you feel the mask needs to be done and the hose? I use Ivory soap to clean my things but I see someone talked about baby shampoo and I may try that instead. Thanks to all.

Linda, click this link:

Or click the word "clean" at the bottom of one of your posts. Either way will take you to the same 4-page topic where quite a few people discuss their cleaning regimens.

there are quite a few posts on cleaning that you can find on here. Just like masks there are alot of different opinions. From those that clean cosntantly each component to those that just wipe down and dip occasionally. I can only tell you what I do and it seems to work.

Every two weeks I clean the hose to keep it as fresh smelling as possible. I do this by rinsing it out with a baking soda mixture. I do the humidifier at this time.

for masks, I remove the silicone interface and wash every morning with ivory or baby shampoo. Use either they both won't hurt the mask. Leave it to air dry and put it on that night. If I forget to clean in the morning my emergency situation is to wipe it down with a hand wipe to remove any oils. This is to make sure I get a good seal. About every once a month I rinse the head band and the other parts of the mask. Usually have to use an alternate mask for a night until these dry.

In response to the original post...

I use the ResMed Spirit with the 2i humidifier. I have tried many different humidifiers in the past 6 years, both heated and not heated. The 2i unit impresses me the most of all of them. It is the most cleverly engineered unit, in that every surface can be easily accessed for cleaning, and the disassembly takes about 5 seconds. Cleaning is a breeze, and assembly also takes a few seconds and requires no special skill, strength or vision. It holds around 12ounces, and I seem to use around 2 ounces per day. In addition, the spirit (and other units I have used) works better with the built in humidifier than an external unit, even with the proper pressure tube.
