Is There a Way to Adjust Max/Min Settings on BiPap Auto

Post by BigEd » Sun Jul 13, 2008 10:26 am

I have a Respironics BiPap Auto with Bi-Flex. Is there a way to access the IPAP max and EPAP minimum settings? All I seem to be able to access is the RAMP START, HEAT, FOSQ and FLEX (1,2 or 3) settings. After two years at my current settings, I'm looking to experiment a little with higher/lower pressures.

Also could someone tell me what the 1, 2 and 3 FLEX settings do?

Thanks.

Most of the setup procedures and menus were similar on the Legacy Series machines......and use the same instructions as listed below.
I'd strongly recommend that when you go through the setup menus for the first time, you write down on paper what your existing menu settings are. With an Auto machine (CPAP or Bi-PAP), there are other menu options depending on which mode is selected. In the Bi-PAP Auto, you have these modes to choose from.

Bi-Level - BPAP
Bi-Level with Bi-Flex - BFLE
Auto Bi-Level - ABPAP
Auto Bi-Level with Bi-Flex - ABFLE
CPAP mode - (IPAP and EPEP are set to same pressure setting)

When in the Setup Menu, the humidifier ^ and ramp v buttons operate as up and down keys to change the settings, the left/right user buttons < > allow you to go to the previous/next question or setting, and the pressure start/stop button is used to exit the Setup Menu. Holding the humidifier or ramp buttons down will cause the values to change more quickly.

To enter the Therapy Setup Menu, hold the two top user buttons < > down while plugging in the power cord.
Continue holding the buttons down until the REMstar Auto w/C-Flex beeps twice.

Note: The word "setup" will appear on all of the screens indicating that you are in the Therapy Setup Menu.
(If you press the Pressure start/stop button, you will exit the Setup Menu.)

Thanks so much Wulfman. That was what I was looking for.

Can you tell me what the FLEX settings of 1, 2 or 3 do?

Thanks again.

Here's the Respironics link to the technology.

http://biflex.respironics.com/

Basically it's three levels of exhale pressure relief......a setting of "1" is the least relief, "3" is the most relief and "2" is in-between.

With my CPAP machines, I've used a C-Flex setting of "2" and that seems to feel like "normal" breathing. If you're using a pretty high pressure, a setting of "3" might feel better.

Good luck.
