I've been taking 2 benedryl for sleep enhancement for many years. It has a great side effect of helping me breathe at night also.....(I only take 2 as I don't want to build up a tolerance)......With all my allergy drugs, benedryl is just one addition.....
It's also the "sleep" ingredient in Excedrin PM and most of the other "PM" type OTC drugs. If you don't need the Tylenol or whatever it is mixed with, just take the benedryl!!!
(you want to look at a drug with reallllllly bad side effects -- look at Tylenol!!)
If I looked at the side effects adverse or good on all the meds I take/took and let them affect my judgment on whether I'd take them or not, I'd be long dead.....better living through chemistry!!
Take a look at the side effects of aspirin....or, take a look at the side effects of green tea......or, ......
It's good to know the pros and cons of all the meds we ingest, but remember, if one person in a study group of 5 million had an adverse affect, it has to be listed on the insert (or list).....
Take those lists with a grain of salt!!!!!
One thing I learned at a very young age however is to consult with a pharmacist before taking meds -- the doctors really don't know meds like the pharmacists!!!! When I was 21 I was given two meds that conflicted totally and the pharmacist picked up the phone, called the doc and asked him if he "reallllly" wanted to do that.....The doc changed the prescriptions...
Take care
cheers

Wars arise from a failure to understand one another's humanness. Instead of summit meetings, why not have families meet for a picnic and get to know each other while the children play together?

benedryl helps me sleep when my allergies are really bad. The other main reason to keep it around as it can help prolong the effects of the epi pen used for sever allergic reactions take the benedryl first and you will have more time to get to help then with out. I used benedryl to save myself when I was given food in a restraunt that I was allergic to (I told them but aparently noone though I would really have a reaction). 4 benyedryl will but me to sleep for a long time but it's better then dieing.
Benedryl to me is like taking a Valium, it makes me so sleepy and then I have to sleep for 2 extra days just to recover from it!
I would love to be able to take it for sleep every now and then, because I used to be up all night long (re-adjusting my mask and nasal pillows) until I bought sleepyguy's pap-cap & chinstrap and finally my headgear stays put and my nasal pillows hardly move at all, I wear the chinstrap loose now because I don't like the deep lines from tightening it.
