Wow, glad this got bumped up, I hadn't seen this thread. I am a 26 yr old housewife. Health probs are preventing me from working now. I previously worked almost 6 years as a Habilitation Tech at a group home for Mentally Disabled Adults. High school grad, no further education.

This forum is full of impressive & awesome people!

I am a regional Human Resource manager for a midwest company. I get to battle the insurance claims for a couple thousand employees so I hope that experience will help when I my prescription today. My apnea and frequent travel don't mix well for me, but with both kids in college I plug along rather than risk the wrath of the company and request FMLA. I have become hopelessly addicted to this forum, thanks to all the knowledgable posters!

WOW!!! Great topic and fascinating resumes!!

Well, I started out doing office work (Bleahch!) for 6 years, then went to college on Voc Rehab grants studying Archeology with a minor in Geology. Worked up in central Wisconsin for 5 years doing field surveys and digs and running the archeology lab. Also did a stint at the Milwaukee Public Museum in the Anthro Dept (Silver Inca Award for outstanding volunteerism! They really shocked me with this impromptu presentation!!). Had to leave all that to go get another office job, then moved to a farm where we had the usual assortment of goats. geese, chickens, dog & cats.

After a traffic accident and the sudden worsening of Post-polio Syndrome, I had to go on disability. I became outraged at the lack or misunderstanding of what accessibility means and how to implement it properly and began working with and being educated by the local CIL (Center for Independent Living. They are everywhere in the US. Go to http://www.ILRU.com? (or .org?) to find the one that covers your area), IndependenceFirst. I am now a Universal Access Specialist and work with architects, designers and engineers to correct and improve on their designs and layouts to create better and compliant facilities and programs. I was supposed to go to DC next week to present nationally with the Director for City Development for Milwaukee on our program to build whole communities of accessible affordable housing. Instead I'll be having surgery.

In addition to that I edit the Post-Polio newsletter "Spirit" for the local PPS support group.

I am also commander of a virtual Air Force Unit dedicated to the pursuits of Archeology/Geology/Geography as they relate to the TV show "StarGate SG-1", with the rank of Lt. General, Division Leader for Div. 2 (Archeology Div. - "AHU") of Section 11 (Research Section.) [As I have posted several places, I answer to Judith, JB, JudyBear, or Sir! <LOL>]

I am also the nominal Town Historian for the Township where my farm was and with their help published a history book filled with stories of the old settlers in the area. Also published a book of old maps (recopied by hand in 4-Section segments to make them more legible and large enough to be read) from old maps and old survey records dating back to 1837. Did this for three different townships.

Just ended a stint as Church Clerk for our local church where, as an historian and genealogist I was able to reconstruct the vital statistics for the church that dated back to 1840, and get it all onto a computer disk. Also used to sing in lots of choirs, but losing my voice now (learned how to take quick breaths even while doing solos )

And now I am investigating the world of xPAPs and sleep studies and spreading that info to the various Post-polio discussion groups where I am either a Mod or owner. Two of the Dr.s at the Froedtert Sleep Centers have told me that my advocacy on behalf of other xPAP users and especially other polio survivors is partly the reason they have now installed one of the few CO2 monitors in their adult sleep lab in the country.

Also an artist (especially portraits in pastels or oil), grow and dry my own herbs and have three cats that the neighbors call "people" because of their distinctive personalities.

And for relaxation I work 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles, usually one every day or two.

Whew. And I wondered why I was so tired!

I'm an RN. I work at a large teaching hospital that serves the "underserved". After years in the trenches, I have my retirement job as an "Advice Nurse", though I hate the term because it minimizes what we do. We get calls from all over the world and help people with hangnails to spousal abuse to sending the EMS out for suicides in progess. I LOVE my job - my life has been SO much richer for it. I am a Sr. HR Consultant, my husband and I own our own busisness. I have been in HR for (dare I say!) 18 years. I have worked for small and large, high tech companies. I have also worked with the insurance companies to "assist them" in understanding.

Thank you all so much for your insites in the wonderful world of OSA. I have only been diagnosed since 11/04 but suspect that I have had OSA for years. I have an identical twin who does not share my OSA, althought we share alot of other things!

Best,

I started out as a high school teacher, quit and worked in hotel management for 20 years. Got tired, literally and figuratively of all the hours. Went to work for a major aairline for several years and now I am back to teaching high school.
I have a much better attitude at 51 than I did at 22 about the "little darlins".

WOW, I was beginning to think that there wasn's an end. I, like many of the others lurk and spend a great deal of time reading the posts. I'm beginning to think I'm addicted. It is just so awesome how helpful, understanding and humerous everyone is. My thanks to all. Now for my
2-cents worth.

44 yo (45 in 9 days - Yippee - presents )
5'7 - 250# (yes I'm fluffy)

My younger days consisted of a variety of jobs. Retail, ceramic shop, waitress, bartender, cook.

Then I was fortunate to be a stay at home Mom at the age of 24.
Opened a licenced day care in my home.

Decided it was time to go back to school and get a degree when my youngest were in school. Instead, I got a heart attack. That was the end of school for a couple years.

In 2003 decided it was time to go back to school. I originally went back to school in the field of business management. When I went back to sign up this time I completely did a turn around and went for a totally different line of work, Massage Therapist. I'v always said "things happen for a reason".

I am soooo glad that I finally found out what I want to be when I grow up. Well, I'm still deciding if I want to grow up or not. I think not.

I have opened my own massage business in town and I am also an Independant Shaklee Distributor (vitamins, supplements, ect.). The two companys work well together for alternative options to help with health and wellness.

I recently took classes in prenatal and infant massage. It is my goal to start to work with families to encourage them to maintain a healthy life style from the beginning and not to wait until they have health problems.

I just love what I do.

I have only been on my cpap for about a week and have more energy than I have had in a long time. I am looking forward to feeling even better and able to get my own health issues under control.

Wow, cool topic, hadn't noticed it before. Very interesting, read all 10 pages of posts!

Ok, I'm 41, 5' 8", two-hundred something lbs (ok, just under 300).

I have worked in the electronics industry most of my life in one capacity or another. Currently, I am a CAD/CAM Specialist for a contract manufacturer in the Phoenix area. Basically, I look at new printed circuit board designs and make recommendations for improvements for ease of fabrication and assembly.

I also design PCB's on occasion (much more interesting) but pretty difficult when jumping from one task to another, supporting 2 factories with over 1000 people total, and me being the only 'CAD guy'. (Can you hear the violins, or is that just me?)

Well, I guess I'll put my 2 cents in. Originally, from Houston, I now live in a small town that is a tiny black dot on the North Carolina map. Just West of Winston-Salem. I work for a company that handles employee benefits in the QA/Software testing department. I spend my time trying to break the things that the programmers and developers create.

I've also worked for Chevron in Houston in their Natural Gas Marketing department, and later for Wachovia Bank here in NC.

I enjoy reading about what everyone does. We do seem to have quite a variety of knowledge around here.

Then went back to school and for the last 12 years have been working for a telecom/datacom management company as a Team Leader / Customer Support and Provisioning. We provide solutions in telecom/datacom brokerage, integration of communications equip and technologies, and also have recently begun brokering energy services.
I also help out with my husband's and son's landscaping business.

Three weeks ago, I retired from teaching middle school Special Ed kids in California. I also have a Regular Ed credential but never used it. Now I am taking a job teaching at a university in China, so I guess that makes me semi-retired.
