Full face Mask Question

Post by gw » Fri Jun 13, 2008 8:48 am

Even though I hate to admit it, I have just recently had to have my top teeth replaced with dentures. Now at night when I remove the dentures, put on my mask, and go to sleep, my top lip recedes and my lower lip is pushed forward. This causes a horrible noise due to the pressure level. I even tried to tighten the chin strap, but this did not work. I am thinking of a full face, but am not sure if this would help. Anyone have the same problem. My wife is about ready to take the spare bedroom and the noise also wakes me up constantly.[/b]

I'm happy to share my experiences and opnions, but they are just that - opinions. So take them for what they are worth.

I began with the Ultra Mirage. Its a good mask; fairly comfortable with only a few leak issues.

I also tried the ComfortFull. In my experience it was anything but comfortable. Absolutely hated it. It rubbed and dug into multiple places on my face and I never did get it to seal well.

I used the FF431 for a long time and I liked it a lot. I had few leakage problems and it was very comfortable. On a side note here I also briefly tried the FF432 - hated it. The inner cushion was a disaster.

I currently use the Hybrid and I LOVE IT. I have been using it for over a year now and it has been wonderful. No leaks. Totally comfortable. I think the headgear could use to be "beefed up" a little. The straps are rather thin and wear out quicker than I think they should, but its minor.

For what its worth, I hope that helps a little.

I have had my upper and lower dentures for several years now. (one of my better decisions in my health, CPAP being at the top of the list) Getting used to dentures takes a long time. If you recently had this done say within the last couple months then you have a lot of adjusting to do and then on top of that getting used to CPAP with dentures may be a bit of a challenge you didn't expect. Give it time, things will come along. Just can't chew steak or chomp on those peanuts too well. Cut them into small pieces or give into chicken and cashews.

I use a Respironics OptiLife nasal mask for most of my sleeping and I seem to fair pretty well. I do notice a bit of mouth breathing from time to time but for the most part once this mask is adjusted all is well.

I recently bought the OptiLife cradle cushion replacement for the standard nasal pillows. These are VERY comfortable and seal rather above average for me. It takes some playing around to get it to seal correctly as it rests on the top lip more than the nasal pillows. I recommend if you decide to get this newer style cushion to order one size smaller than then the standard nasal pillow. ie. nasal pillow = large, cradle cushion should be a medium.

I also tried a Resmed Swift II but that seems to bother my top lip more than the Respironics. Maybe this one would do better for someone who has all their top teeth.

For a full face mask the Resmed Ultra Mirage II seemed rather comfortable but I really haven't taken time to adjust to that one. It's on a shelf waiting for me if I can't get this mouth breathing thing fixed.
