Mirage Quattro Air Leaks

Post by emmettdigger » Tue Jun 10, 2008 8:37 am

I have a mirage quattro full face mask. Generally it's ok but it tends to leak air over the bridge of my nose, which causes me to snore pretty loudly at night. I wash my face before putting on the mask and wipe the mask down with a wipe to clean off the oils. Still leaks. I have the knob turned as far as it will go. Short of strapping the headgear on really tightly, I'm out of luck. Oh - I don't currently have insurance so getting a new mask is out of the question for a while.

Thanks!

Emmett:

All I can really do for you is agree that I too have had this problem. It seems that the Quattro is just too wide at the bridge of the nose. In my case, it would blow air up under my eyelids.

I have switched to the Mirage Liberty, but have just traded one leaking problem for another. Though I love the Liberty, it does leak occassionally if the nasal pillow gets displaced at night.

There is no perfect mask...unfortunately!. Good luck to you. Perhaps someone has a solution for you, but I honestly think the design of the product is the issue.

A good sized piece of MACKS silicone (earplugs) at the leak location will stop it. Sometimes a piece of MOLESKIN at the bridge location will also work if only a small amount is needed. The MOLESKIN sticks too well, so stick it to a counter top of something to dirty up the adhesive a little. It will also stop the red mark from a mask on the nose bridge.

Welcome!

It would be helpful for us to help you if you would fill in your profile with machine, etc. Of course, we already know you use the Quattro.

I've used it and tried various fixes which worked for me until I developed an allergic response to the type of soft silicone on the flaps. Below are two examples of discussions on this forum about the Quattro (there are lots more).

An easy way to search for more is to use Google to search just this site. As an example, try typing the following into Google:

quattro fixes site:cpaptalk.com

You could try to get more specific than that but I think you'll find a number of suggestions.

What worked for me: Mack's silicone putty on the part that sits on the bridge of my nose plus a quattro padacheek. Keeping straps not too tight, plumber's teflon tape around the threads of the elbow in the front of the mask to prevent whistling, and a pantyhose tights leg as a stabilizing strap.

Most masks need tweaks to work well. Rested Gal's lab rat awards show some remarkably creative tweaks!

Good luck!
Mindy

Order your Padacheek NOW!! I had the same problem and it SOLVED IT!
We can't post links, but PadACheek dot calm ( wink wink). Order the top piece for the Quattro. You can select different designs...any questions and she'll be able to answer, wonderful woman.

Yes, Karen of padacheek fame is terrific. Her products have helped me several times. In my case, the padacheek helped but did not completely resolve my sore nose. Hence the Mack's silicone ear plug putty finished the job.

We're all different!
