I can't decide which M-Series Auto to get: A-Flex or C-Flex?

Post by AMinNJ » Fri May 23, 2008 11:59 am

Hi everyone,

I have been using the M-Series CPAP with C-Flex for the past year, but I am now considering getting an M-Series Auto. I'm still having more apneas than I would like, but have not had much luck getting rid of them by tweaking my pressure settings. I thought an Auto might help me improve my AHI by blowing harder during those times of the night (probably REM sleep) when my stubborn bunches of apneas appear, while helping me sleep better with a lower pressure during the other parts of the night.

I understand the M-Series Auto with A-Flex allows for a smoother transition between exhale and inhale, and the M-Series Auto with C-Flex just offers the exhale pressure relief. Does anyone have any feedback about either of these machines that might help me decide which might be better for me?

Thanks! Have a wonderful, safe, and well-rested weekend, everyone!

Angela

A-Flex or C-Flex

I have the M Series Auto with A-Flex. In the auto mode, you have the choice of C-Flex or A-Flex. In the cpap mode, you have C-Flex.
That makes this a better buy (more options) if you want it. I use my machine in Auto at a A-Flex setting of 2 and I love it.

A-Flex or C-Flex

Me again! I re read your post and should have said more. I find the A-Flex to be a very smooth transition on exhale. It seems to me that the machine just lets you exhale without any pressure at all. I have a narrow auto range set and my AHI is great with my setup for me. I have AHI of below 1 almost always. A few weeks ago I had AHI 0.0! I don't expect that too often. After all, I do have sleep apnea! I had an old tank and I could only adjust the pressure. Ther was no exhalation relief at all on it. What a difference! I have the software and card reader so can see how I am doing. It really shows the night in detail.

I have the M series with A-Flex also, and it does have both A- flex & C-Flex, I love it also!

I just recieved an email this morning, a special from cpap.com and they are having a good sale on the Remstar Auto with A-Flex with Heated Humidifier included for $549.00 or $589.00 ( sorry, I am not 100% sure on the price) but what a deal, they also have the V8 machines on sale and a few masks. You might want to go there and check it out, the sale will last for 2 weeks only!

Goodluck,

There is really no choice. The aflex model also has cflex and the cost is only a couple of dollars difference. Aflex only works on auto mode and cflex works on cpap mode. Having both is the only way to go!

I have the M series auto with A flex and C flex and use it in the auto A flex mode.
This machine is extraordinarily comfortable because of the exhalation relief of A flex and is the machine that made this whole CPAP thing tolerable for me.
I recommend it highly.
But, it has not lowered my AHI; i run around 3 to 4 pretty consistently every night.
I feel good in the morning and I think it is giving me very good therapy.

Aflex includes Cflex so the decision shouldn't be too difficult,

I have a M series Aflex with approx 150 hours on it for sale w/humidifier and extra tank, card reader and EncorePro software at a reduced price, PM me if in the USA and are interested.

Only US Residents need apply and I only accept PayPal.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Thanks everyone for the great (and quick!) responses... and you are all right. I am going to get the Auto with A-Flex.

ONE MORE QUESTION: Does anyone use the M-Series Auto with the HC150 humidifier, or do you think it's best to use the M-Series integrated humidifier?

I have the M series with aflex and the integrated humidifier. I haven't had problems with it but it doesn't hold very much water. I would probably get the HC150 humidifier if you can.

A-Flex or C-Flex?

Post by Hawthorne » Fri May 23, 2008 2:51 pm

I used the integrated heater for awhile. Had no problem but continually worried about leaking and damage to my machine. I finally bought the F & P 150 Humidifier. I like it so much better! It's bigger and easier to clean. You can get more settings on it, it can be preheated (if you use it in heated mode) and I don't worry about my machine MAYBE getting water damaged!!

I'm not sure what version of software you have, but I think I remember reading the M-series w/ A-flex requires Encore Pro 1.8x or Encore viewer.

I've been leaning towards the M-series auto with C-flex because I have Encore Pro 1.6x

Good choice, Angela!

I use the Fisher & Paykel HC150 heated humidifier with my M Series Auto with A-flex. That combo works fine together.

With the built-in card reader. I think that it comes with one card. Buy one spare.

There are combo deals that sell Encore Viewer with an external card reader for your computer for around $155. cpap.com will price match.

I use the integrated HH and have no problems.

Similar situation, went w AFLEX

Post by Captain_Midnight » Mon May 26, 2008 4:52 pm

AMin - -

I also was using a CFLEX machine, and wanted to try autopap.

I (luckily) went w the M series w AFLEX. I did one night w CFLEX, just to set a benchmark (I know, this should have been a week or two, but I couldn't wait) then AFLEX for the past 7 months. I can't think of a thing I would change.

I have tweaked the pressure range a bit, settling on a half cm above my cflex titrated pressure to 2 cm above that for the upper range. Last night, for example, average AHI was 0.1 . Almost always below 0.5 (unless I have allergies or a cold, then it goes up a bit.). Sometimes it's ZERO.

Using the Encore Viewer and smart card, I've been able to determine that my lowest AHI is at unheated (passive) humidification, thus the little humidifier that comes w the unit is more than enough. (I remove it and let it dry daily.)

Good luck with your new APAP.
