I have that suffocating feeling no matter what humidifier or no humidifier I am using. My best humidifier results have been with the Humidaire. So far exhaling is a real problem for me and I wake up, close my nose and gulp air through my mouth until I feel better. I have tried straight cpap Resmed S7 (set at 14), a two week autopap rental Resmed Spirit with download to the MD, am now on trial with a Remstar Plus/C-flex (still at 14) and suffocation is a tad better, but the integrated humidifier is giving me fits. I still have to turn the ramp back on in the night when I wake up, because I can't get back to sleep for working so hard at exhaling. DME says next step is a bipap, but I don't go back to the MD till end of July.
Don't know if it is worth a try to ask to try the Remstar Auto before bipap or what? I am surely looking forward to the rested and alert feeling that I hear comes from treatment. I am not giving up. I AM going to make this work. Any and all advice is appreciated. I just hope they don't give up on me and tell me to forget it because nothing seems to work completely. Oh, BTW AHI was 45.1 and minimum SA02 was 72%.
Advice, Please?
What level is your C-flex set to? If your having that much trouble with exhaling, then your Cflex should be set to 3 (I believe.. but some1 correct me if I"m wrong.)
My Remstar auto is set to 3 on cflex, and I don't have any troubles with exhaling. Soooo glad I got clex, becuase straight pressure when exhaling is so hard to deal with.
Just post if you don't know how to check or set your Cflex setting. Some1 can tell you how to if you don't know how....

There's no way to tell unless they'll let you try that particular machine...preferably with C-Flex set on 3. If pressures lower than the straight 14 you're on now will keep your throat open much of the night, that would be good.Don't know if it is worth a try to ask to try the Remstar Auto before bipap or what?
If it turns out that you really do need 14 (or close to it) most of the night, then a bi-level machine would be much more comfortable treatment for you.
