Distilled water on Cruise ships
Distilled water on Cruise ships
Just wondering if anyone who has been on a cruise ship was able to get distilled water on the ship? Don't want to use tap water. Although going to the carribean maybe won't need humidification!

Just use bottled drinking for the trip. I used it on a (3) week trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, and it works fine.

My first cruise since I got my APAP was last December on Holland America. I called ahead and asked for a gallon of distilled water to be delivered to my room. When I checked in, there were two gallons sitting on my table, as well as a heavy duty extension cord. They could not have been more accomodating.
I love cruising!

Neat stuff. There's only one problem with cruising...after a 7-10 day cruise, I've gained 10 pounds and need a higher pressure

I was gonna suggest calling ahead the last time I saw this posted. Makes sense to call the cruise line, I am sure they get more & more requests for cpap accessories these days. I really doubt they would say no?OutaSync wrote:My first cruise since I got my APAP was last December on Holland America. I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Or if you can afford the cruise, it shouldn't hurt too much to buy a spare HH tank. Jim
If they have a good mechanic on board, you could ask him for some water he refills the batteries with. It would be worth it just to see him laugh.

Amen! It is not the QUALITY of the water on a ship, but the plumbing it is sent through.BarryKaraoke wrote:I don't know that I would trust it however with all the food/water borne illness that seem to pop up on ships from time to time.

If you cruise with Princess you can contact the cruise line through the website. I was told to contact medical services when we cruised last in March '07. I requested a gallon of distilled water and it was there for us. I brought an extension cord and had the steward have the engineer inspect it and tag it as "okay for use" ("kosher", that is!).
No problems at all- except for the 8 pounds I gained in 10 days!

Having used PAP for 12+ years with no HH, I fail to understand the concern with a few days.
You are on the WATER and the humidity would be very high.
I personally think HH is helpful for only a small percent of people.
In any event, without HH, you are still breathing the same air that everyone else without PAP breathes.
I could be wrong.

Tomjax since you don't use a HH and then you don't understand the difference do you? Each person is different what they can or can not tolerate.
Having said that you are right the Caribbean is of high humidity and perhaps the HH won't be needed. I will investigate that angle a bit more...but if I have it with me then at least if I needed I will have it with me.
Interesting question that does arise how many of HH and use of them.

Don't forget that cruise liners are air-conditioned and that takes the humidity out of the air. I needed my humidifier and it was no trouble at all. Just keep it in the top drawer, next to the bed and put all your gear in there, out of the way of the stewards.
I sleep so much better on a ship. Something about that gentle rocking motion.

Very interesting thread as we are looking into booking our first cruise since I was exposed to SARS on a cruise out of Canada. (our waiter for 8 days had it).
I was told some cruise lines may ask their chief engineer or whatever, to inspect the unit before you plug it in.
They do that in some hospitals. Sutter Roseville, CA being one.
I was initially irritated, then I realized it really is for my benefit and health.
I would literally be dead in the water without mine. CCHS is not too forgiving.
My other fear is what if my primary breaks? Dumb I guess, but I am on my third one. I guess they never figured on someone running such high pressures on them. I love my SV.
If you are in Hawaii, we may see you. I will be the one with the Swift II mask lines imprinted on my cheeks.
