Newbie to the the hose

Post by silver123 » Thu May 15, 2008 8:05 pm

Well...Hi...I've been hanging out the last month reading, garnering what knowledge I could. Got a final diagnosis Monday of severe obstructive sleep apnea. So..out to the jungle of DME and I now am trying for the second night an M Series Auto CPAP with AFlex machine with a heated humidifier and smart card...and am on to the mask hunt. Tried the Opti-Life nasal mask but the pillow angle though adjustable and no mater what size pillow, leaks especially when I turn over. I don't think it likes my slightly pointy, yet oh so elegant.. nose. I;m going to try the Swift Mirage II that so many seem to use here and see if it fits better.

Anyway, thanks for all the sharing. I know this is going to take time and patience and perseverence and a darn good sense of humor. But this is seriously destroying the quality of my life. I fall asleep at work, not exactly something appreciated by my boss. I'm glad for allt he research that has been done and is ongoing and for everyone out here who shares what they have found.

So ..just tell me if their is some oath I gotta swear to join the ranks or some secret handshake. Do we all just rattle our hoses or what?

See ya around the halls...

Yep, hose rattles you will hear. Welcome to this board. I am a newbie as of Feb and have found all the information I have from these kind people.
Keep at it and good luck!

Yeah, ya gotta be willing to take charge of your own therapy, and not fall for the shenanigans of your health care practitioners. And don't be making excuses for any of 'em either.

You are smart to start off with an APAP. Hope that helps you get your therapy tweaked up quickly.

Regards,
Bill

Hi Ho Silver,

I have been on the hose for two months now. Felt a little better from the first night, and lots better the past few weeks.

Finding the right mask is still in my plans. I do great with the swift, except for this time of year when my nose clogs due to allergies.

Good luck finding your right mask. Looks like we are on the same machine. Don't know about other machines, but really like mine. It was a big day when I had 7 sessions in the past seven days.

Hope your nights go well!!

Before you get to the secret handshake, you need to go to the top of the page and fill in your profile. (Listing you equiptment in text form is better).

It lets us know what you use and helps us in answering questions. Welcome, you can't read and learn too much. Jim

After you finish filling in your profile...spend some time reading! Check out the yellow light bulb at the top of the page for our collective wisdom. Then check out the red question mark for even more info.
Ask all the questions you need to to get this all working for you. There is always someone around to help.

Welcome, Silver!

Sense of humor? What could possibly be funny about seeking advice from people named Rooster, Bookbear, Ozji, Dreamstalker, Blarg, Slinky and Nighthawkeye? Or buying pieces of fleece 60" x 4"? Cutting apart brand new women's tights? Pressing a cosmetic pad against your forhead? Putting bars of soap in your bed at night? Or wrapping your head each night like you belong in a WWII hospital? I fail to see the humor...

Good luck, and be sure to post your questions as they arrive. Lots of really nice hoseheads will give you the virtual handshake.

Take Care,
Cathy

I think there's general meeting in which we honk our hoses collectively... and then there's the mask ball... and The "visit the lab and meet the rats" session... the Lab Rat Trophy awards exhibition, Rested Gal's collection of threads to seal you mouth... a "How to Handle your Recalcitrant hose and How to Tame Your Slippery Mask" course...

Welcome, Silver123
