New here!!

Post by iowamom » Wed Apr 30, 2008 10:03 pm

I just found this website, this is AWESOME!!!
My dad has worn CPAP for 6 years and my mom got hers in January. I started to notice that I wasn't sleeping very well at night and more and more tired during the day. So I went to my dr and had my sleep study last saturday. They called today and said my AHI was 109.9!! So I will be going back this saturday for mask/machine fitting and titration.
I am looking forward to being more awake during the day and able to play with my kids. I am 32 and 200 pounds overweight so have a ways to go but anything to help with energy will be great!!
Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Welcome, It's sad that this problem becomes a family affair, but that way it's more likely that treatment will be given.

Don't do as most do, Get a XPAP that collects data, so you can take a proactive part in your (and families) treatment. Without a machine that collects full data and the software it's harder to make the treatment work.

If you have trouble breathing through your nose, a FF mask is best to start out with. The providers will want you on the machine and mask they can make the highest profit on, that's not in your best interest. Jim

Welcome to the forum, IowaMom. You're on the right track. Check out the info at the top of the page under the Yellow Lightbulb and the Red Ball w/the Question Mark in it. You are gonna wanna be sure to get a fully data capable CPAP when you get your equipment so you're gonna wanna know which devices ARE fully data capable.

Welcome to the forum!

While you're waiting for your equipment be sure to click on the yellow light bulb at the top of the page and read 'Our collective wisdom'. Now is also the time to look at the different machines available. Try to get a data capable machine.

Once you have your equipment, fill in your profile. It will help us give you better answers to any questions you may have.

Before you go PLEASE take the time to find out which machines are fully data capable and which ones aren't. Some "data capable" machines only measure compliance and give no meaningful information. If you're going to be serious about this you don't want to get stuck with one of these. You might as well get it right the first time.

Let us know how it goes!

Welcome IowaMom... getting a fully datacapable machine has more to do with the DME than the sleep doc, though the sleep doc can help the cause.

I had my titration sleep study last night and it was GREAT!!! I was not ready when she woke me up this morning. I will be getting my machine tomarrow, CPAP of 14. I am a HUGE mouth breather so I figured I would end up with a full face mask, but the chin strap was enough!! I can't wait to get my machine toamrrow!! and sleep good again tomarrow night!!!
