Condensation in Mask

Post by tlc95066 » Fri Jun 24, 2005 1:21 pm

Hi All,

I have been reading this message board for a couple of months and have found it to be invaluable! I find it very refreshing to see that others are having some of the same issues that I have encountered.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 11/04. I am currently using the following: RemStar w/cflex, pressure 4-10, F&P flexifit HC407 nasal mask. and oh what a joy it has been.

I started out with the Breeze and then went to the comfort gel and as you can see I am using the Flexifit. The breeze left me with sores base of my nostrils and the comfort gel hurt the bridge the base of my nose.

I do not have a humidifier on my APAP, however I am starting to notice some condensation on the inside of my mask. So much so that last night I took it off after about 5 hours. Obviously it feels pretty gross. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if they did were they able to resolve it.

When I did a search on the message board all the results seemed to be from people who had humidifiers on their XPAP's.

Anyway, thanks again to all the wonderful posters out there! Most of my questions i have been able to get answers to just by viewing! I am fortunate to actually have a doc that is sensible and a respitory therapist that seems to understand my needs. Well ok.... that was after i told them how i wanted to be treated!

Have you started running an air conditioner, now that summer is here? Could the room be much colder that it was before?

The condensation is caused by your warm wet exhalation hitting the dew point as you exhale it into the cold mask air. Do yourself a favor and get a heated humidfier. Your sinus will love you for it.

Thank you for your responses. We actually don't have air conditioning and thankfully don't really need it!

I will check into the heated humidifier. My doc had actually recommended that but because i was having so many issues with the mask we decided to wait. I am not thrilled about adding one more new thing to my new bedtime ritual, things seem to be settling down a bit now.

So when do I start feeling better? How long does it take? I am tired of having the foggy brain and/or headaches. Thank god i work from home, i can nap if i need too.

Thanks again for your responses.

Instead of the heat in the room, how is the humidity level there? Up here in Ottawa (Canada), we've been going through some real hot humid spells and one time last week my mask filled too, I just turned down the humidifier and haven't had a problem since. And before anyone makes any cold canada jokes...we do get summer . We get 4 Seasons up here... Winter, Spring, Construction and fall .... bahahahaha. No seriously, we get the same as everyone else.
