Well I finally heard back from the doctor. She said to stop taking the Metformin for one week and then resume the 1000 mgs. 2 X aday. I will resume but one at 500 twice a day thank you!! I cannot believe how sick I was. I have a sister who is a nurse--she told me that I had all the symptoms of low blood suger which is very dangerous---so I guess I am going from Hi to Low and then back to Hi again----UGH!!

I have a call into my ENDO--to see if she can cut the dosage down --I am not taking 1000 MGS twice a day --it is a killer! stay tuned for more details,

Carrie (sleeplessinaz), that sounds awful. If you get to a place where the only side effect still bothering you is the nausea, that one will probably go away. For most people, supposedly it goes away after a few weeks.

It took me a while to work up to 2000mg and even that way, metformin made me very, very queasy. For months, I could not stand the thought of eating anything until at least 2pm every day. Also, occasional mild diarrhea. However, no headache except for maybe the first few days, nor any of the other side effects you mentioned, so in my case, I don't think I was experiencing hypoglycemia.

Even with increasing the dosage gradually and making sure to take it with meals, the queasiness bothered me for quite a long time but it did eventually go away. The reason I stuck with it was that it had caused me to lose 20 lbs and stabilized my weight, and I liked how it changed my appetite for carbs and sweets.

Hi K8E---for your advise --I put myself back on Metformin today at 500 mgs twice a day and plan to work up from there. I have the glucose meter now and the strips so I can check things out. Sometimes I get light headed too or dizzy --this medicine must be pretty strong stuff!!!

Thanks for letting me know that the nausea will go away sometime and I am hoping to lose some weight too!!! YEAH!!!

Thanks again--
Carrie
