PB 420E

Post by curtcurt46 » Sun Apr 27, 2008 3:01 pm

I am considering buying one for myself, however I have a question for the experienced users out there.
I read or remember that the 420E measures pressure at the mask and has an additional tube to do this. Does this mean you have to use the 420e 6' tubing? Does it also require a coupling at the mask? I can't quite picture how this works. Are certain masks a problem and won't work?

The connector on the end of the hose that attaches to the CPAP machine has a small hole punched in it and a piece of tubing is passed through the hole. A short piece of the sensor tubing hanging outside of the CPAP hose and is connected to a nipple on th CPAP machine; the other end of the tubing runs inside the hose to the mask end. The tubing ends and the pressure is measured at the input of the mask. cpap.com sells an 8 foot hose for the 420E and you could fabricate a longer hose; the tubing is standard oxygen tubing.

Nearly all masks work just fine with the GK420E. However, any mask which comes with its own hose, like the ComfortCurve, will need special consideration. The ComfortCurve comes with an extra lightweight hose and uses a special connector at the mask which, while not entirely compatible, nevertheless can still be press-fit into the 420E hose. At least that works satisfactorily for me.

the 1/8" ID separate hose enter the center of the main hose by coming in the side of the rubber/silicone end on the regular CPAP hose, it then runs down the center to the opposite end.

While you can adjust this hose it doesn't need to be extended into your mask for it to function, it simply measures the air pressure at the mask for a more accurate reading.

That hose connects to the pressure transducer on the inside of the machine. Most other mfgs just run the hose from the transducer to the main air outlet and compensate for the hose length internally.

but you can use it with any mask without anything special even the leader hoses some masks come with, nothing special is needed to use those masks.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Here are some pics - go to panel 3 using the nav arrows & click on the last 3 pics to enlarge them & see the hose ends.

Good decision, if you decide to buy one. I really like mine. Small, quiet, great software.

Cheers,
