How do I know if I have the adaptive flow Hybrid and the newer version of the headgear?

The "new" headgear is black on the outside and grey on the inside.

As far as the shell, the vent holes on the newer release are slightly smaller than on the original version. I can only tell the difference by holding the two shells side by side and closely comparing the size of the vent holes.

Thanks Rooster for the quick reply! I have the new headgear. Does it make a difference if the exhaust holes are different?

My supplier is a dope and tried to sell me a complete Hybrid which only had the small and large oral cushions. Thankfully I read up on it and knew it should have all three.

I have only had mine for a week and a half and have finally reduced the leakage to a minimum. I have felt better the last 3 days especially after getting the fit proper. I do not have a data capable CPAP machine which will be alleviated in 4 years when I am able to replace it, so unfortunately, I don't know what my AHI or leak rate is. I am only able to determine it's effectiveness by how I am feeling. I got 7 hours last night went to bed at 10:30 and woke at 5:30 and am feeling great and full of energy.

This is my 3rd mask and overall I really like this mask compared to the Comfortlite 2 with the simple cushion, and the optilife. I am not a mouth breather but I do have the lip flutters.

Also, an interesting benefit of the Hybrid was that I do not have any more swallowed air or pains in my stomach when I wake up!!

I have used masks with both size exhaust vents but still could not answer your question with any any certainty. I started using the mask with the smaller vent holes as soon as I could get one and have no plans to go back to the original version. Since your mask has the new headgear, it most likely has the new shell with the smaller vent holes. If you are feeling great, then you should not worry about the vent rate.

On the other hand, if you have any symptoms of sleep apnea, I highly recommend that you save your quarters for a data capable machine with software. Based on personal experience, sleep labs often don't get a optimal pressure titrated.

Rooster, I know I am opening myself up for ridicule with this dumb question, but I know you are kind of the authority with the Hybrid. I have been trying to use my Hybrid but never make it even two hours. I've read many of your postings and tried a lot of the suggestions, finally did operate on one of the cushions to cut the chinrest off and have the bottom part mastered now, I think. But...I cannot figure out the nasal pillows yet to make them comfortable, and my nose stings like a son of a gun eventually, so I give up and switch back to a full face mask.

With the nasal pillows, are they supposed to go all the way in your nose or just the air slot is and the larger springy part is supposed to block the rest of the nostril? Are the straps supposed to be so tight that you end up having "pig nose"? I've tried the Mack's, the rubber band, the Ayr Gel, but I cannot get any kind of comfortable fit for the nasal pillows, so I thought, well, maybe I am cinching them up too tight to try to get the seal or going too big.

Thank you! Your help is appreciated!

Peggy

Peggy,

I had many problems when I first started with the Hybrid mask and had to do much fiddling.

The opening of the pillows should be just inside the nostrils but where they widen to a rim is on the outside of the nostrils providing the seal.

Rested Gal's "tights fix" is worn over the rims of the nasal pillows and provides stability that keeps them in place all night long.

The headgear should be snug but definitely not tight.

Thank you, Rooster! I still haven't been able to find a picture of Rested Gal's tights fix exactly, but I think I saw something along those lines with somebody's Breeze or Swift, one of the nasal-only rigs. Am I understanding right that you would cut a hole in the tights for the nasal pillows and then kind of tie it up over your head...or behind your head? And then you've got stability of the nasal pillows without having to cinch up the headgear for what was leaving me with "pig nose" and seeing a very unattractive picture of what I will look like in a few years with every wrinkle showing?

Thanks for walking me through this, Rooster! I want to make the danged thing work for me!!

Rev A has old useless headgear and high flow shell.

Rev B has newer, better headgear and high flow shell.

Rev C has newer headgear and newer adaptive flow shell.

The revision is listed on upper right on front page of user manual.

Rooster, bless your heart!! I have searched high and low for that famous RG tights fix picture and never have been able to find it with so many posts that come up to search through. But since you mentioned the mannequin head, I was able to search for "mannequin" and only had seven or eight to go through and FINALLY found it!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess I am more of a visual person, and the light has finally come on.

Thank you!!

Peggy

P.S. Hope you found a good replacement place to have dinner! Yikes on that health rating!!

Not sure which link you found Peggy, but here is a good one: http://www.tnlc.com/Lara/laura/osa/aura-strap6ways.jpg

I run that tights leg on my Hybrid similar to the last two in the pictures.

Well, now I really feel stupid, because that link you gave me I had seen before and didn't realize those were the famous tights everyone had been talking about, thought they were some fancy "for sale" velcro straps. Did you hear that thunk? That was me slapping my forehead in an "I should have had a V8" gesture! Guess I'm a little slow. Can we get away with blaming everything on lack of satisfying sleep?
