caution optilife users with small heads

Post by girlsaylor » Wed Apr 16, 2008 7:05 pm

There's been discussions in the past about people with smalll heads having trouble with the very large optilife headgear.

I've suffered some painful injury from a combination of the optilife headgear and foam earplugs. I have to wear earplugs to sleep. And the optilife is my mask of choice. I also have a small head, so the headgear goes over half of my ears, as it is still way too big even adjusted as small as it can go.

Here's what happened. Apparently I had a pretty active night one night, with the earplugs in and the opti over my ears, actually over the foam earplugs. The earplugs ended up being forced farther into the ear canal than they would normally be placed, by the opti headgear over my ear canals. At least that's what it seemed like happened. I've been in pain for the last two weeks from this to the point I can press on the bottom of my ears lightly, on the outside and it hurts like the dickens. Unfortunately, with the DH's job change, I could not afford to continue the COBRA, so cannot afford to go to the doc. If it doesn't clear up on its own, I'll just have to live with the pain til June when I have insurance again. Feels like the ear drums are damaged, both ears.

Ouch!! Sorry about your pain!!

I wish they would make the headgears more adjustable. I do not have a small head and many of the headgears are still too large. I can't imagine having a small head and the headaches that go along with the large headgears!!

Double ouch!! I wear the Flexifit HC 407 Nasal Mask and the head gear is HUGE!!! I have adjusted the straps as much as I can but still had a big leftover of headgear bunched up at the back of my head. I folded it over but that is still not the ideal way to sleep with a wad of strap at the back of one's neck. Why does all the head gear come in size LARGE it seems like?? You'd think if you wear a small mask---why not attach small head gear? Seems simple to me but it does not happen,

As active as you were, I cant imagine the headgear pushing the foam in deeper - unless you left it sticking out.

But even if you did - you can't afford waiting to go to the doc. till June.
