heyy everyone. i just started using my cpap about 4 days ago. it's been going okay and everything, but at some point i wake up at night and i have to open my mouth and hear the noise to make sure the machine is still on.
i don't know if that's normal or anything, like i've said i only started using it about 4 days ago so i don't know what's really supposed to be happening.
AND sometimes i wake up in the middle of the night and rip the mask off my head without even knowing i did until the next morning. is that normal too? haha.
if it matters, my mask is a respironics optilife nasal pillow cpap mask and the machine is a remstar auto m series a-flex.
any ideas are appreciated greatly

i don't feel like it's on...?
Kerri, that's actually a good thing (not knowing it's on). To me that means your brain has accepted your machine and is filtering out the extra information so you can sleep.
Some people who use the ramp function have problems getting to sleep because the lower ramp setting is not giving them enough air to breathe. But that's not what you've described.
Taking off your mask in your sleep is also totally normal. It should stop happening over time.
Keep at your therapy. Nighttime oxygen desaturation (also known as smothering) is a bad thing, on top of sleep disruption.

I had the same thing happen. I was told that this is perfectly normal. I quit ripping the mask off after a couple of weeks (although I still may once every few months) and I quit worrying if the machine was working. I finally decided that what I was doing was indeed normal and now, a year + later, Life is better.

It would pay to have Encore Pro and the reader to monitor your progress and if you have mouthleaks when asleep. The reason I say this is everyone shows software in their profile and all they have is a useless card. Jim
