CPAP AND CAMPING
CPAP AND CAMPING
Hi everyone,
I just went through my first night on cpap, and went pretty well. My question is, I am supposed to go on a trip for the holidays. I have been making this trip on Thanksgiving for 20 years with my 2 best friends in the world. We are in the wilderness, and hunting. We have a camper and we have the inverters? that let you plug electrical things in. We watch TV and things like that. I told my friends that I wasn't going, for the first time, and they were very upset. They know I am on the machine, and said we would deal with it. They even said we would go to a motel, if it would make me feel better. Good friends huh? My question is, can I plug this thing into the camper? I have a Resmed 8 with HH.

Check the manual. Call ResMed if necessary. My thinking is that your CPAP will run on the inverter power but your heated humidifier may not.
How many nights? Exactly what model machine? I would definitely call the manufacturer and get the straight skinny on this, but there was a guy that took his cpap on a RAFTING trip. On battery for several nights. A little advance planning and you might not have to miss your trip at all!

If that camper has an outlet for 110 volts you can use it. If they are going to a park with hookups you can run your cpap with a long cord right to the box on the site. Just take a long cord for the cpap and a few assorted pluds or adapters. The cpap should be able to be operated with 110 volts

ambrola,
Do whatever you have to, don't miss the trip!!!!! I went on a (Girlvation-girls only vacation) camping trip in Oct. We had a blast, too much wine & too much fun, I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Don't ever let CPAP interfere with your plans!!!! Hope you have a wonderful time!!!!!! Let us know how it went.

The cpap will operate on inverter power however I woulnd not switch on the heated humidifier unless its a pure sine wave inverter. A modified sine wave sometimes called a square wave inverter MAY cause damage. I had a resmed spirit with humidifier and never had aproblem on a PURE SINE WAVE inverter . http://www.invertersrus.com/inv300ps.html
Better yet. Buy yourself a GK420E and operate directly from the battery at 12 volts !
Your batteries will last much longer also !

I have the same problem as some of you -- my hobby is radical off-road 4x4 adventure, and we're often WAY off the beaten trail with tents and kayaks.
I'd suggest running a 12V equipped machine off of one of these:

(Note: Web is for reference only -- no recommendation!).
Those battery boosters pack a big punch in a small package. If they can start a diesel truck multiple times, they will surely provide 12v power for a C-pap for a weekend of camping. Plus, they can be charged up from your car battery if need be. Very portable, neat, tidy, and some have extras, like lights, and plug-in ports for 12 Accessories (lighter sockets).
You can buy them at any auto parts store, sears, etc.

CPAP is a safe bet for the doctor due to all the research. It is a loser to the 60% of patients who do not tolerate it.
