Medical Errors Costing U.S. Billions

Post by Wulfman » Tue Apr 08, 2008 11:51 am

Well, if you bought all that BS about trusting your doctors with YOUR therapy and if you believe that a little too much air is going to kill you.......please read this article.
If you're not happy with your medical professionals, it's kind of hard to go doctor or hospital "shopping" if you're DEAD!

Yeah, I know......the article doesn't specifically say anything about Sleep Apnea, but it's still a sad story about the state of our over-priced medical care in this country.

One blip from the article which I thought was interesting:

Of the 270,491 deaths that occurred among patients who experienced one or more patient safety incidents, 238,337 were potentially preventable, the researchers said.

EDIT: Now, if we just knew how many people have died from adjusting their OWN PAP therapy machine pressures......

I heard the other day that the third leading cause of death in this country was seeking medical care. Sadly, I believe it. There are hospitals around here that I wouldn't go to on a bet their care is so crappy. Of course, not having insurance I couldn't go anyway...LOL.

My husband, during the fall, just had his 6th brain tumor removal. They have all, excecpt for one, been done at a major hospital. Before, they did several of these surgeries, he was admitted to our local hospital first. Not a bad place all in all, but I was always there during medication time and several times found them trying to give him wrong doses at wrong times and each time I had to correct them. His doctor had them all listed properly, it was the staff screwing up. He was on 3 different seizure meds at different dosings for each, hormone medications, and bp meds. It was like a total of 14 pills. When we were at the major hospital in the major hospital 5 hrs away, there were no errors and I found I didn't have to be there during med time.

By the way he is doing great for the first time in our 11 yr ordeal.

This just proves that the patients have to watch out for themselves in the medical world. Including CPAP care...

If ONLY the "errors" are costing us Billions, can you imagine what the non-errors are costing us?
someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

Medical errors cost us billions. Lawyers cost us billions. Prisions cost us billions. People who engage in risky behavior for fun and then expect us to pay for their medical care cost us billions. War costs us trillions. You guys sound like you think the only reason people are in the medical field is to make you miserable.
No boom today, boom tomorrow. There's always a boom tomorrow....

I think the ONLY reason most are in the medical profession is to try to get rich.
