After using the CPAP for 5 hours I get shooting pains in my legs from knees to feet. What does this mean?

Definitely contact your doctor.LavenderMist wrote:You should contact your doctor and make him/her aware of the problem and he can address it.
Speculating about the pain, maybe before cpap you felt free to change positions often while sleeping. And maybe while wearing the mask you feel you must lie in one position to prevent mask leaks. Maybe lying in this one position could contribute to leg pains.
Call your doctor.

Leg Pains
Some people exhibit periodic limb movements after going on cpap if it wasn't picked up before due to apneas waking them up too often for the movements to "kick in". Talk to your doctor.

The position you are sleeping in might be a factor, too. Is is different than when you were not on cpap? Maybe now you are sleeping on your back whereas you used to sleep on your side? I have had trouble with sciatic pain in my leg and my PT says that I should be sleeping on my side (which I prefer anyway) and with a pillow between my knees. Maybe that might help you, too. But I agree with all the advice about contacting your dr.

When I first started my cpap I would wake up with my right leg hurting. Mine was more of an ache and ran from my thigh to the top of my foot. Sometimes the pain would just be in my calf or my foot. Since I sleep on my left side I figured this was because I was laying in one position all night. Yes it was the top leg not the one I was sleeping on that hurt. I was so sleep deprived that when I did sleep I stayed in the same position all night. My pain would go away after getting up for 10 minutes. I no longer have the leg pain and I move more during the night. I don't think it lasted but a week or two. I forgot to tell my doctor because by the time I went to see him the pain had quit. But I also had just been put through different tests with both my heart doctor and family doctor, so I knew everything was fine. Does your pain go away after you are up? How long have you been having the pain? Not a bad idea to to consult your doctor.
