CMS -50E question

Post by Arizona-Willie » Wed Apr 02, 2008 11:01 am

Has anyone tried wearing this unit while exercising or walking?

Awhile back I took a walk and wore it and got wild swings in the pulse and SO2 readings.

Today I tried it again but I hooked my thumb in my belt while walking thinking that possibly the swinging at the end of my arm while walking was messing it up.

Nope .. got the same wild swings again.

Recently the cardiologist put a Holter monitor on me and I made it a point to take a walk while wearing it but they didn't apparenlty see anything wrong. I would have thought they would see the wild pulse readings.

Here is a pic so you can see what I mean.

If you haven't tried it ... please do and let me know if you get wild reading variations or if it is just me or my unit.

Haven't tried this yet, but I will give it a try this afternoon. Isn't the heart rate supposed to increase with exercise?

The heart rate register on my treadmill always shows a higher rate after exercising. Doc said keep aiming for it to be between 102-130. (Lucky if this old dude gets up to 100).

Back again, after 12min of exercise.......WHEW!

Normal pulse rate for me is 72-76, but varies considerably if I swing my arm with the CME-50 on. However, on the treadmill I HOLD ON FOR DEAR LIFE AND WALK AT A WONDERFUL 1.5 MPH. Not of very much help to you, I'm sure, but this old dude is limited by age and weight.

On the treadmill and Nordic rower, pulse varied 76-100 (more variance on the rower than the treadmill) but the O2 varied more than the pulse.

Checked the CME-50 resting pulse with the treadmill pulse reader. OK,almost identical.

Unfortunately 12 min doesn't give much exercise data. Not much help.

Mine defective?

Post by Capri » Wed Apr 02, 2008 8:02 pm

After 3 weeks of frustration, I asked EchoStore for a replacement. It will arrive in a few days, so we shall see if it was me or if it really was defective.

I saw wild swings just having it on my finger sitting here at the computer. I saw wild swings a few of the nights I had it on. The last night I had it on, it was pretty well behaved.

My unit was returned to EchoStore - arrived there late Friday. They processed the return yesterday and sent another one today. They don't answer the number on their web page with anyone "live" but when I called the number in Lake Bluff today I was able to reach someone live to confirm that the new one was sent.

swinging readings

Post by Arizona-Willie » Thu Apr 03, 2008 12:48 pm

I just tried it useing the SO2 with the 4 windows and ran it for 15 minutes or so.

My pulse stayed within a few points...very small variation.

O2 also stayed within a few points ... 87 to 94.

Surprisingly, when I drifted off in a mini - nap while just sitting here, my O2 actually went up!!! Most of the time I was in the upper 80's to 90 but if I fell asleep it seemed to go up to94.

Not that that is a big swing percentage wise, but it was surprising it went up when I drifted off.

But it becomes obvious that the CMS-50E only gives good readings when it is sitting still. If it is swinging on the end of my finger while walking the reading swing pretty wildly and I don't believe my pulse and O2 are actually taking such wide swings.

Do you think maybe a heart Dr. could answer how movement affects heart rate and O2? Or any doc?

When hubby was in the hospital ICU and heart rate dropped into the low 40's he was told to move his arms to increase the rate on the monitor.

When I was doing research before buying my CMS-50E, I found that all finger type POs that I looked at said that they did not give very good readings with any significant movement. I was going to use mine while exercising, but have not attempted yet. My plan, however, was to pause and take a measurement rather than take one "on the fly" or try to record the data. I can see were it may work okay on a treadmill if you hold onto the handle, but even then I would be at least a little suspicious of the data.

I don't know anything about the subject matter so I won't comment. What I really want to tell you is the shock I got when I saw your avatar photograph! You are an absolute dead ringer for my GP - I couldn't believe it when I saw it - I thought my doctor must have emigrated to the USA and ended up with Sleep Apnea to boot - amazing!

Hello all:
The CMS-50E isn't designed for Movement or Walkaway, because you know it's too heavy. we have another product with name CMS-50F to meet this requirement, please refer to http://www.contecmed.com/english/Articl ... rticleID=0

CMS-60C TFT

Post by wbcook » Wed May 07, 2008 2:39 pm

I purchased a CMS-60C TFT through body-phishing for $150 plus $28 shipping. It is a pocket size unit with a long finger clip cord. The order went through quickly and it was shipped to me in less than 3 days. The device functions very well and records up to 24 hours of data. I highly recommend using that retailer. They were very helpful.

The software for the SPO7500 filters out movement. I'm sure they are not designed to be used while moving.

The order process is a little odd.... they don't have a way of indicating what the shipping will be until after you have paid for the product, but in any case the shipping to Australia via EMS post was also USD $28.

My landed cost in Australia will be just under AUD $190, so it looks like a great deal.

Cheers,

Bill
