cpap and sexual arousal

Post by Guest » Sat Mar 22, 2008 12:49 am

I don't mean for this to be inappropriate at all, but this is the second night in a row I have woke up in the night with an erection. The first thing that comes to my mind is autoerotic asphyxiation. Does this mean I'm not getting enough oxygen because of the CPAP machine? It seems counterintuitive but I'm a bit worried about it now. I also feel very hungry when I wake up after a few hours on this thing.

No, it's because you're getting MORE oxygen!

Well, this is just an indication that therapy does work for you.

My very first night on CPAP, while in the sleep lab.. Same thing.

The sleep tech was telling me stories of others with the same "condition" who had forgotten that they were on camera.
Now THAT could be embarassing.

Sleep Well,
Lyle

Wish I could get that excited about MY therapy.

Not sure just how long you have had OSA but as long as men have been around - that is an indication things are returning to normal, my friend. Perhaps you have forgotten?

I don't think I've had a good night sleep in 20 years. I mean that literally! I don't remember the last time I got aroused in the night, probably when I was a teenager.

Random..........

My bet is that your blood pressure is high. It might be interesting to record a series of BP checks...before bed......during the night when you awaken & experience the big "E"....and in the morning when you wake up.

Also, if you can get your hands on a recording oximeter....you might find low O2 levels at the same time as your "experiences".

It may be that "flow limitations" are actually causing low O2 levels....even though your CPAP machine doesn't register any excessive number of apneas or hypopneas.

In other words, I suspect low O2 during certain periods of the night..... is causing high BP.......and that helps produce your "experiences".

Gerald

Hi Folks,

REM sleep is the reason you are having an erection. Sexual Arousal is one of the things that happens to the body during REM. Women also become aroused during REM sleep.

Congratulations for getting into REM.

Why is that, Titrator? I mean, what is the physiology behind it?

Wow...how do you come to THAT conclusion from a midnight hard-on?!

Unless such bizarre things normally excite you, I would say that you are finally rested, your bodily functions are returning to normal and you are just having some "fun" dreams.
