New nose mask ideas. . Micro Mirage?

Post by shardebhow » Mon Mar 17, 2008 3:22 pm

I am due for a new mask. I currently have a Respironics Comfort Select nasal mask. Although I believe it is working, I am not sure if I am getting the best fit. The Tech at my doc's office said I might want to check out the Micro Mirage. Someone else said that the Respironics Comfort Gel is also a good choice. The problem I currently have is that the bottom of the mask needs to rest on the top of my upper lip in order for me not to have leaks near my eyes. Plus, I do get a sore bridge of my nose. I have tried assorted padding there but nothing seemed to work.

Any ideas are appreciated.

I just got a Comfort Gel Nasal and used it for the first time last night. I am impressed as I had no problem with leaks even though I still have to tape my mouth if I want to be sure about the leak rate. I don't think you would go wrong with this mask. I use a Medium on most all other masks and this medium held true to form. Lotsa luck. jim

Comfort Gel

This is the sizing mask for the Respironics ComfortGel series. I like this mask as a travel/backup. Make sure when you print it that there isn't any size changes. Measure the little square - it should be 1" by 1" square.

Then, just cut out the template and the nose "holes" and see which size would be best.

https://www.cpap.com supplied me with this when I called and asked about sizes. If you call and ask, I am sure they might email you another template for another mask.

Good luck!

Here is a link to info on the Micro. You can also search this site for some discussion on it. Click on the search button on the top of the page, then type in Mirage AND Micro in the search field.

If you are having problems with soreness at the bridge of the nose, your mask may be adjusted too tight. I was able to loosen my mask without leaking by applying Mack's silicone putty around the cushion, as shown in the link below.

I have also used moleskin over paper tape on sore spots. Best of luck!

I tried the Micro last night for the first time, and I really liked it. It was light and it had so many ways to adjust it! It was much easier to adjust than the others, as it has a little wheel that you can turn one way or another until it's comfortable.
I had zero leaks, as well.
I also like the the fact that it doesn't obstruct the line of sight.
The headgear , while I like the quality is still too big for they typical womans head.
Other than that, this may be my favorite so far.
I've used Activa, F&P HC407, Respironics Comfort Fusion, Comfort Gel, F&P HC 431 (full face) , Ultra Mirage II Nasal mask , the Soyola and the Swift .
