Just wanting to say hi and introduce myself. My name is Scott from Indianapolis and I am 32. I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea a couple of weeks ago and just got my CPAP machine today. It is a REMstar Pro 2 with the heated humidifier. Is this a good machine?

Also I got the full face mask because I have year round nasal congestion and end up breathing through my mouth all night. Does it sound like I am starting off right.

Sounds like you have a great machine, you must have a decent DME. When you say you're breathing through your mouth, I hope you don't mean with the CPAP. Do you feel your mouth is open when you're using the CPAP, or closed? Are you using a nasal only mask or a full face mask? If you're using a nasal mask, you need to breathe through your nose only or you'll lose pressure and it won't be therapeutic. Did they teach you how to adjust the heat on your humifier so you can adjust the amount of humidity that you are receiving?

Just a few thoughts,
Joyce

I would insist on an Auto unit. The Remstar Auto with c-flex fits the bill. If they give you any stuff about it not working for you just tell them it can be used as a straight cpap also if needed. The Puritan Bennett GK420E is very good and much cheaper.
The best way to deal with the congestion is to deal with it ! Get that problem solved by treating the problem. An allergy medication such as allegra, claritin, sudafed and/or nasal spray such as Flonase, Nasonex or other medication. You'll find the Full Face mask is no easy cure and no fun.

Hi Scott-

I'm Dave from Burlington, Ontario. Like you, I was recently diagnosed with OAS- severe - 37 events an hour. I've been on the same C-Pap as you have, a Remstar pro-2 with C-flex.Heated humidifier. My mask is a Breeze with nasal pillows. I've been using it now for about 3 months and for me, it's worked really well. No leaks and very comfortable for rolling around. My biggest problem has been dry mouth which has been controlled pretty well with a chin strap. I know the hardware is very individualized- what works well for some doesn't for others. Hope it works for you. The treatment works. Be patient.

scottyeric,

One poster here told you you would have problems with a full face mask
and find it's no easy cure.

Like you I breath thru my mouth and I wear a full face mask (ultra mirage)
and I have used it since I started cpap(almost a month) and I like the mask and have no problems with it.

If you breath thru your mouth when sleeping then the full face mask is probably the right way to go.
