Can you believe it?

Post by ldemmery » Tue Jun 14, 2005 12:31 pm

I just got off the phone with a local DME and they want $56 CAD for a new hose Tube! Can you believe it? I found a place in British Columbia that will send me one for $20 CAD and $10 shipping and handling. Talked with them directly, very helpful. (The Sleep Apnea Store) Anyone hear anything about them?

Oh, I forgot to tell you, my cat pierced my current hose. My husband as a quick fix used electrical tape to fix the hole, a small strip over the hole then bound in over and over again, slightly stretching it. Works fine but I'm still worried that it's not a permanent thing and that it will eventually leak. I woke up half way thorugh the night with a small headache, so I'm not sure if its sealed properly. The headache was gone by wake up time.

Why not order one form here, cpap.com, for 9.99 or 11.99 for a 10ft ? Is the shipping to Canada that much more?

shipping

Post by WillSucceed » Tue Jun 14, 2005 2:39 pm

Shipping to Canada from cpap.com is expensive, especially when you consider that they will ship to their American customers for free (if over $100.) However, if the price difference of the item is enough, it can still be a bargain to purchase from cpap.com even with the exchange rate and the shipping costs.

It is probably worth you while to call them for a quote.

I emailed them for a quote including shipping. If what you say is true, I probably did get a bargain from that other place. I just had customs/exchange rate etc...once you have all that, sometimes it just isn't much of a deal.

Well folks, I made contact with CPAP.com for a quote. Outcome, well, price was alot better, however the shipping killed the deal. Turned out that the end result would to be about the same as the other price I got, once you figured out the exchange rate. Then there's the whole matter of possible customs duties... Staying with a Canadian company just made sense in this case.

I will in future ask for quotes from CPAP.com while looking at all my options for stuff.

The DMEs seem to charge far too much for everything relative to what CPAP.com (and some of the other online vendors) charges. I need to take a few minutes and figure out how I can get insurance compensation buying directly. It may not be my money being spent, but an overcharge still offends.
