Activa giveaway
I have an Activa, about 3 months old, used 3 times, that I am prepared to give to someone who wants an Activa but cannot afford to buy one.
I think the Activa is a great interface; seals well and is very forgiving of a wearer who tosses & turns during the night. The problem for me is that I cannot tolerate having the mask touch the bridge of my nose. So, I bought the Activa hoping for success... now it sits in the drawer unused.
I think it is a crime to have this mask go to waste -this is why I'd like to see it go to a good home. It is a 'standard-large' (not shallow) in mint condition. If you are wanting an Activa and, in good faith, cannot afford one, let me know through a private message.

Activa
Lots of folks just can't stand anything touching the bridge of the nose. The Activa is probably more gentle than most masks because of it's design. The design allows the Activa to 'inflate' so that the mask can be worn very loose (loose straps) but still seal very well. I just can't tolerate anything touching the bridge of my nose. I have tried a Mirage FF and found that it carved a groove in the bridge of my nose after one night. With the Activa, I was OK for a night or two but, by the third night, I had to take it off.
For me, nasal pillow systems work best. This is why I am giving the Activa away. Many people are really satisfied with the Activa; I'm just not one of them.

Dear WillSucceed,
I just got back from my DME where I got a Mirage Activa. Is that what you are giving away? I had the Oracle since June 7th and gave up on it. If you want to know why, if you are considering it, please read my post (use link below).

Is this the nasal mask? Did you find it all right except for the bridge of the nose problem? I was more concerned about mouth opening problems with a nasal mask, but got some what seems to be good advice from Janelle about placing your tongue against your teeth to keep from allowing leaks from your mouth.
What are your plans regarding where to go from here? Sorry to hear this didn't work out for you. You seem like a generous man. I wish you the best of luck. Maybe you can find someone who doesn't like their mask and you can make a swap???

Just for the record, I ordered the Activa, based on the recommendation of rock and roll, as well as others. I've used it 3 nights so far and it works great, very comfortable, no leak problems. I have not noticed any lines or marks on my face when I get up in the morning.
I'm even planning on ordering another cushion for the Activa, to replace my current one, when it wears out.
I may try a couple others just to see what else is out there, but I am very satisfied with the Activa, so far.

The Activa covers your nose only. It is NOT a nasal pillow system, touching your nares (openings of the nostrils) only. The Activa seals along your face outlining your nose and upper lip. You can find the Activa on the ResMed website. (If I knew how to do the URL-link function, I would include the link). Is this the nasal mask? Did you find it all right except for the bridge of the nose problem?
I'm having great success with Respironics Comfort-Lite, Mirage Swift and PB Breeze. I'm happy to just give the Activa away to anyone who would benefit from it.

I am so glad to hear you are having success with the Activa, Boomer. I am looking forward to trying mine tonight. Of course the first thing I did today when I got home was to try to put it on and see if it would leak. When I sat up, it did. But when I layed down, and turn on both sides, it seemed pretty airtight. Any suggestions for a newbie to the Activa like myself looking for the best possible first night? I'd be interested in your suggestions. So far, I've heard keep the straps loose and to put my tongue against the back of my lower incisors to keep air from leaking through the mouth. I'd be open to any other suggestions you have. Thanks!

First off, be sure to soak the mask and hose for 30-60 minutes. Other than that and what you listed, the only other thing I do is wash my face just before going to bed. I forgot on the second night and it took a little more adjusting to get it the way I wanted it. On the third night, I remembered and it was fine right off. It seems if you have oily skin, as I do, it takes a little more to get a good seal.
Good luck with it,
Boomer

Why do you need to soak the make and the hose? I am totally thrown by that suggestion. First off, I guess you remove the straps first, before you soak it. And then what are you soaking it in and why? I am a bit perplexed by that one. Never heard that before. The mask came with a CD to watch and even that never mentioned anything but to wash it before you wear it the first time. Boomer, you threw me with this one...do tell!!!First off, be sure to soak the mask and hose for 30-60 minutes.

Yes, remove the straps first. The soaking gets rid of most of the "new plastic" smell. That was a suggestion I read here. I tried just washing, that helped, but the plastic smell was still pretty strong. I soaked the mask for about an hour in warm, not hot, water and a mild soap, and that pretty much got rid of it. If you're not bothered by the smell, then I guess just washing it would be fine, but it was pretty strong in my mask. For me, I was trying to do everything thing I could to make the first night go as smoothly and comfortable as possible.
I also read on the documentation that came with the Activa, when washing it, be sure to use a mild soap, nothing with anti-bacterial, fragrance, or anything like that. I think the old Ivory works well for that.

Will Succeed,
Have you tried using microfoam tape on the bridge of your nose? I found this is better than moleskin. By using the microfoam tape, I have not had a problem with soreness on the bridge of the nose.
When I went to try masks on, Activa just didn't seem to fit me. You are certainly very generous but please try my suggestion first before you give your mask away.
