Oh yeah, I'm back to normal. Random hoarseness lingers, but I feel fine, and I'm breathing just fine.
Cheers,
Babs

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

OK Babette. I made 2 little nylon plugs (looks like little plastic nails with heads) pushed them through from the inside to plug the exaust holes. I then made new holes about 45 degrees up from the original. Seems to deflect it just enough. I will sleep with it tonight and see. Photo attached. Its not very good photo, my camera won't focus close enough to get a good picture. I darkened the new holes so they would show up. The picture is with one plug in and one out. No glue, out gasses etc. If I turn it down it hits my bottom lip.

What do you think, should I apply for a patent or apply for a job with the company?

I think you should set up your own business as a customizer, and see if Innomed slaps you with a lawsuit.
I can't see the pic, but I love the concept! I'll check the pic tonight and look forward to your report tomorrow!
What did you use for plugs? Something only a man would know the name of, and the aisle number for them at Lowe's? (You can whisper it to my Dad - I won't listen....)
LOL,

Ok, just in case any one is interested. I did use the modified canulla the last 2 nights. I did not destroy the XS. I went to clean my small and found a tear at the base of one of the prongs so I used it. It worked fairly well. I think I got the holes just a bit larger than the originals. The holes are a real pain to cut. They won't drill, a hot punch won't melt them, and abrasive wheel won't cut them. The only way I could get holes was to punch them with a leather punch so I have a choice of Size A or Size B but nothing in between. I may have to make a punch the right size. I most likely got them a bit too large because I was worried about getting them too small and not clearing the CO2. The leak rate was a bit higher than before I modified it. It ran about 35 L/Sec. Course I guess it could have been the tear in the prong a little. It normally runs around 27 or 28 L/Sec. The one thing I did notice is that the air coming out of the holes I cut seemed to come out in a bit more of a V pattern than the straight pattern out of the little puckers of the original holes. It did stay off my arm and off my wife, although she does not complain, just crawls under the covers more. She said she did not notice the air at all.
The plugs came from an old nylon punch I had. I chucked then up in a drill and turned them down with a file and sandpaper. I have not found it but there should be a small plastic rod that you could heat the end and make a knob on it and would be easier that turning down the punch. I had aeveral but all of them I had were too small in diameter. I will have to make a trip to Lowes and see if I can find something. Guarantee you ain't gonna suck the little plugs out and swallow one.
The diameter of the canulla does not allow it to turn the air straight up because the V shape of the air would hit you in the face. When I turned it over with the holes down the air would hit my bottom lip.
Not going to guarantee it to solve all the problems but it did seem to help. It did seem to me to be not as noisy but that could have been because of the slightly larger holes.

What do you need a Pix of? I posted the pix of the modified canulla as good as my camera will take. It is a couple of posts up! Besides you can't see it at work!
Do you think Innomed would be interested in testing it? If I had a Pulse Oximeter that might be a good enough test. I will have to see.

I just got an NAII on the advice of a coworker. Man, is it ever LOUD! (the NAII, not my coworker.) I tried it one night. I managed to fall alseep, but my wife first tried her ipod to drown out the noise, then eventually moved to the couch.
Otherwise, I like the NAII. This morning, I cut the top off a child's sock and put it over the body of the NAII. I cut holes for the prongs. I then *very* loosely stuffed the sock with aquarium filter floss. It is quite a bit quieter in the preliminary tests. We'll give it the wife test tonight.
The NAII seems pretty popular - I can't believe more people don't find the noise annoying.

Did you put holes for the vent holes?
You need the mask to vent the co2 out if you covered the vents with a sock and THEN put floss aound it you are asking for trouble due to a build up of co2.

Okay but if I am reading correctly the sock is covering the vent holes and the only openings cut into the sock is for the pillows. There is still a build-up of co2 inside the sock I bet even if "venting into the floss".
I am glad it is you and not me as I want to wake up in the morning. Of course this only my opinion.
