Aussie Heated -- How long can one expect it to last?

Post by vrgsph » Tue Feb 12, 2008 11:37 am

I am thinking about getting the Aussie heated hose.

Since I expect to pay about $150 for the 8' model, I would like to think it will last.

It comes with a cover (at least where I am buying it), and I imagine it should protect the wrire from breakage.

If I clean it periodically, it should remain "fresh."

The ends are now marketed as "reinforced."

I don't want to replace this thing too often.

Any comments?

Before I start a debate about the length, I checked back to the site in the US that is selling it. They do sell an 8' length, but it is comprised of a 2 foot insulated and 6' heated section. After reading that, I don't think I am interested in the 8' section.

I am still interested in getting the 6 foot hose, though.

I'm still using the same one after 2.5 years. I use a quick hose connect on the humidifier side, and have recently added one on the mask side too, just to be on the safe side.

Aussie hose

Post by vesselpessel » Tue Feb 12, 2008 5:23 pm

Could you explain what a "quick hose connect" is? I can see that connecting and disconnecting the hose from the mask when I get up at night could increase the wear and tear on that joint. I'm sure it would extend the life of my Aussie hose if I could put something between the hose and mask. Thanks

Here's a quick connect--I use these on my Aussie Heated Hose as well (both ends), just to prevent wear & tear. https://www.cpap.com/productpage/hose-q ... nnect.html

I use this on the mask end, too. I'm sure it will extend the life of the rubber hose connectors, which seem to be a vulnerable part.

I used my first one for over three years. Like ozij, I used connectors to save wear and tear on the rubber cuff.

Finally replaced it with a backup heated hose. Not because the first one had quit working...still worked fine. It had finally deveoped a tear in the hose near the cuff. Tape took care of the leak for awhile, but I decided I'd gotten more than my money's worth, and it was time to start using the new one.

If I were buying one from scratch today, I'd probably buy the Repti heating cable:
