hey den (wulfman)...guess what?
hey there
can't remember if i told you i had another sleepover at the lab a couple of weeks ago
saw the doc today for the results:
he says: didn't we prescribe you 6 cm?
i said yup
he says your chart says 8.5
i said i told you at the last visit i increased it
he says oh, yeah, i remember
then he says, well, you know what? at your study, on a pressure of 10, you had less than one event/hour!!
i said oh, so you want me to bump it up to 10?
he says well, let's try 9.5 for a while...who changes your pressure for you?
i said well, i do
he says, ok, change it to 9.5, get your bloodwork done in may and i'll give you a call
so what do you think of that? a year ago, you thought i should be at around 10, but i didn't have a data capable machine and was afraid to do anything without it, so i was at 6cm for nine months; i've been at 8.5 since september and now it turns out i should have been where you said all along!!! it's little wonder if haven't felt so much better after all this time
it's official...you're my hero

Goooosh..... < drags toe in dirt >
Well, what he said really baffles ME!
If you only had one event then, why did he prescribe 6 and not 10???
Heh, heh......"Who changes your pressure?"
You go, girl!
Best wishes,
Den

a year ago, he told me that they had achieved "perfect control" of my apneas at the titration study with 6 cms, so that was the rxWell, what he said really baffles ME!
If you only had one event then, why did he prescribe 6 and not 10???
when i went back for the study 2 weeks ago, they started me at 7, though it was noted in my chart that i use 8.5...so i wonder, if i had one event/hour at 10, what was "perfect control" at 6?
at any rate, maybe one of these days i'll be at the correct pressure, while i'm still young enough to be able to read the numbers on the damn machine,

Hey Sharon, does this mean you're feeling a little better since you upped your pressure to 8.5? Was the 10 at the sleepover the best night ever?
WOO HOO!
Babs
well, at 8.5 i think i was improving some, albeit slowly, but how bitter am i to have been at the wrong pressure for so long, lamenting the lack of improvement for nine months!!!!??
and no, the study was actually brutal: i thought it would be a walk in the park, since i had my beloved headrest, my papillow, my nasal gel and was now an old hand at all this...but i froze my patooties off, they woke me repeatedly to move the breathing monitor belt, the bed was horribly uncomfortable causing me pain in my hips...i admit, i've turned my bed into a veritable nest, with my memory foam topper, my papillow, my microfibre fleece sheets, my body pillow and my over the headboard hose hookup...but still ...
thanks babs

Right on Sharon!!!!!!
Would have been fun to be a fly on the wall during that conversation with the doc....The look on his face when you said you change the pressure yourself was probably "priceless".....
I've reset my pressure to 10 (after 2.5 months of messing with it without improvment) and my average numbers are coming down the longer I keep it there. Last 2 weeks have been about AHI 1.5, so I'm a happy camper....sounds like you're going to be cheerfully in the tent with some of the rest of us.....
That's great news!!!!
Babs is soooooo right!!!
take care
cheers

Sharon, so happy to hear you are at last getting the therapy you need!
I was titrated at 7-8 and am currently inching my way up --- currently at 12 and will keep it there for a couple of weeks. I suspect I may need to go up a bit more.
It's amazing how many times we hear that actual pressure that works is different from titrated pressure.
Keep up the good work

Sharon I was in the same situation as you , but my pressure was too low for 1 1/2 years. I was prescribed at 8cm for my titration but was still very tired. I had another study done & they titrated me at 6cm. Iwas so disgusted by then that I bought the card reader & software & after tweaking my sweet spot is 9.5. So my pressure for 2years was too low no wonder I felt like crap. I'm upset that I didn't get my software sooner.

Sharon, considering how much time we spend in bed sleeping, beds should be nests!
At least now, you doc is conditioned to you taking control of your therapy and changing settings. Of course, he'll probably forget all that the next visit...
Hope the new setting offers more improvement!

Getting old doesn't make you 'forgetful'. Having too damn many things to remember makes you 'forgetful'.
