About total hours on Resmed APAP...

Post by Joffive » Wed Feb 06, 2008 9:58 am

It's official, My Resmed Elite is being replaced with the Vantage, yay! My question is, does anyone know how to tell how many total hours have ever been logged on to this machine, or how old it is by serial number, maybe? It started out as a loaner to me and now the Elite is going back and the Vantage is staying. My DME said he was pretty sure it was brand new when I got it, but I would like to be sure, if possible.

The first six digits of the serial number are the year and month of manufacture. Mine starts with 200703.... and was therefore made in march 2007. I don't know how to tell the hours used other than from the usage menu. I don't know if that can easily be reset or not, hopefully someone else can answer that.

Colin

p.s. My Vantage was made a good 6 or 7 months before I got it, so I'm not sure if that means mine wasn't new, or that their stock rotation is slow. (It was a free upgrade because the Elite was out of stock and was meant to be new, but I've become cynical lately.)

Thanks Colin,
Mine appears to have been made in June of 07... It's hard not to be cynical, isn't it? I'm just glad to know there are others out there who can relate!

There are two places to look for machine usage:

Best is in the Clinical Menu, under Servicing, where there is a "Run Hrs" display. As I understand it, this is a non-resetable clock of the time the blower motor has ever been running.

Another place to look is in the Results section under Usage Data (which can be gotten to a variety of ways), where there is a "Used Hrs" display. This can be reset back to zero. Ideally, it had been set to zero when you received the machine. If so, and if it has not been reset since then, and if the machine was new when you got it, it should be about the same as the Run Hrs.

I am puzzled to note that on my own machine, the Used Hrs is three hours higher than the Run Hrs. How can I have used it three hours more than the machine has run? I assume this comes from the machine rounding each individual session to the nearest hour, and then adding sessions, with a net "rounding up" error. But 'tis odd ....

Thanks for the extra info.

I wonder if the extra hours aren't perhaps testing in the factory, and they do a factory reset of the Run hours when it leaves. I'll check mine tonight to see if there is a discrepency...

I think if you delete the data it will reset that whereas the run hours ca't be reset.

Mine has 750 hours on the run, and 755 on the used. Seems they're all that way.

Maybe they didn't test bigk's...

I can always bend my theory to fit the facts. Maybe the testing is done on those that are shipped overseas, and bigk's didn't get retested because it stayed in Australia?

I like the "rounding" theory, because mine has less total hours and also less difference between the run time and used time...

I have 1368 on "run" and 1365 on "used".

Cheers,

It's reassuring to hear that it can work all these ways. This observation, plus the fact that there appears to be only a small numerical difference regardless of the absolute number of hours, supports the hypothesis that the "used" time is rounded for each session, and then this rounded time for each session is added to the total. "Run" time is probably recorded cumulatively to a higher level of precision. If this is accurate, one would expect that "used" might be either slightly higher or lower than "run" from time to time, as a result of "used" rounding.
