Doctors office calls me on Sunday morning

Post by Hunter1 » Sat Feb 02, 2008 6:39 pm

Last week I received a strange phone call on Sunday morning. It was from the Doctor's office. The nurse wanted to set me with an appointment to see the sleep doc.

I am 45 years old and have never received a phone call from any doctor's office on Sunday. I told the nurse I would have to get back with her as I did not have my schedule.

Since then the Doctor's office has called me several times leaving messages and almost demanding I call them back. They call my cell phone and they call my house. I made up my mind several months ago I would not see this specific doctor anymore.

I think this Doctor needs business and is desperate.

Anyone out there had an experience like this?

I'd call them during the week and set up a phone appointment to find out what the purpose of the appointment is. If it's urgent, they should be able to tell you on the phone.

It does seem strange! If you are getting weird vibes, always find a doc you feel comfortable with, I'd say.

I once had my doctor call me himself and I was scared when I got the message. It made me call back right away, where if it was the nurse, I might have waited till the next day or when I could fit it in my schedule. It was important as there was a blood test that came out indicating hypercalcemia (not severe) but that can be deadly if on the way up not taken care of right away. The followup test showed it was ok. I'm on a medication that can cause hypercalcemia, so there was reason to worry.

I appreciated that the doctor did this. That's why I say you should call and make sure that it's nothing serious.

I think I would ring back and find out what the doc wants to see you about, just in case it is a health related matter.

might need to make a phone appt time to talk him (not a paid appt)

If it is a health related matter he *should* make it clear why he needs to see you.

If it is more a back pocket related matter, he may be more cagey!

good luck

Doctor's office calls

Post by kteague » Sat Feb 02, 2008 7:19 pm

I've had lots of calls from the doctor's office through the years, and there was only one on a Sunday. Maybe they have an employee playing catchup if they are behind on their calls. My guess is they have an obligation to follow through with this, and can't stop calling until they check it off their list. Seems like one conversation for you to tell them you'll not be making an appointment should stop the calls, don't you think?

I talked with Nurse. She said it was for a follow up visit.

Follow-up visit? Good Lord! You know those are money-related most of the time. It's weird they keep bugging you.

Have you already found another doctor?? Tell them you won't be following up with this particular doctor and you don't owe them any more of an explanation

Perhaps they have to show that they are following up with you. Compliance for the docs?

Have you seen this doc and had any recent test that you don't have the results for? If not they have no business calling you on Sunday and causing undue anxiety. Anything they know on Sunday was known on Saturday, probably Friday. Did they miss or forget something? Have they made any bad decisions in diagnosing and treating you? Or is it just that the kids need shoes & the car payment is due? Losing patients?

Oh how cynical we get.

MD's secretaries will often take work home with them on wknds as a matter of course to do phone work without having to go into the office... the fact she called on Sunday may only mean she's playing catch-up at work and nothing else (and it probably never occurred to her that it could worry anyone!).
