Anyone have any experience adding oxygen to their mask? I run the APAP at 7-10.5. Now have a mycobacterium infection in my lungs and the doc directed the use of oxygen at 2.0 l/min while I sleep. I have been using a simple plastic tubing with cannula for the O2 (No CPAP). The UMFF has ports for a the O2 but I wonder which pressure will win out inside the face mask and/or how the PAP pump will handle the push back from the O2 tank. This is more an engineering question than a medical one but any comments would be welcome.
Have a good night!
Clif

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret; it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye.

There shouldn't be any problem. I use supplemental 2L of 02 w/my CPAP at 8 cms. Except we run the 02 tubing to an adapter situated between the Humidaire 3i and the mask hose.
Interesting. I take it they did a culture to know that is it the mycobacterium. They don't seem to like to do cultures around here. And the one time I do know of their doing a culture the idiots didn't bother to do a sensitivity!!!
I wish you well and hope it clears quickly for you.

Thanks guys.
Yes, they did do a culture from some collected sputum. Apparently it takes 7 days to find the M. Abscessus variety, which may explain why it has taken over 2 years to identify. Now all I have to do is survive the treatment. 2 hours of IV antibiotics 3 times a day for a month. Good news is that it seems to be working. Feeling better and coughing much less already.

I don't know anyone that has used those ports on the mask. I think they are nothing but a pain because the little covers fall off and then they have a leak. An additional hose would also complicate things. The adapter that goes between the humidifier and the hose works great.

This post started me to wondering about my O2. Before I went to my F&P HC150 humidifier the O2 "T" adapter hooked on the output end of the humidifier and the hose then attached to it. I realise there was no other way to attach it with the interagrated humidifier and this is where the instruction manual says put it. With my HC150 humidifier (the instruction manual does not mention using O2) I have attached it the same way but it is really in the way. It would be so much simpler if it was hooked between the flow generator hose and the humidifier chamber. Can anyone think of a reason why this would not be good. The only thing I can think of might be that it might have more of a tendency for the oxygen to flow and collect in the flow generator with the electronics. I know slinky and I have recently had the conversation about the "Woosh" factor with oxygen in the generator but I thought it might make it worse. Has anyone used O2 with the F&P HC150.
