Itching From Head Gear
Itching From Head Gear
Been using the Mirage Swift for a couple years and the last few months I have been plagued with this incessant itching at the base of my scalp. I wash the mask often but was wondering after all this time if I may have developed some sort of allergic reaction to the latex. Anyone else have this problem and if so how do you deal with it? I have been using the same mask for about 8 months and know I can get a new one but if this problem persists not sure what the next step should be.
You could get padacheeks for the headgear. Go to http://www.padacheek.com or PM Padacheek, she is a forum member.

Headgear & itching
While it wasn't an allergic type reaction, I used a few masks that the headgear just plain bugged me. One was thinning my hair, the padding on another felt plastic and was too hot, another had rubber gripping my head. Until I deconstructed my Headrest I had to wear a scarf or du-rag under my headgear just to not be agitated by being hyperaware.
Having something between your skin and that strap may help if that mask is working for you in every other way. PADACHEEK strap covers would be one possible solution. I had one for one of my prior masks and it made the mask much more comfortable.

Oops! Too slow - just consider my note a product testimonial.

On the far chance that may be the issue: Have you by any chance changed the soap or detergent you use for washing the mask?

Re: Itching From Head Gear
I too have horrible head itching and hair loss on the back of my head. I assume it is because I am a restless sleeper. I would love to fix the problem though. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Re: Itching From Head Gear
The owner of Pur-Sleep the aromatherapy seller is no selling headgear to relpace normal headgear. It is a cap, just like a doo-rag or whatever and you attach your mask to it. No slipping or sliding and no more straps. Check out his site and see what you think.
I don't think anyone has had any problems using his headgear. I love mine.

Re: Itching From Head Gear
A quick solution to try - take a basic cotton bandanna or scarf, unfold it, and lay it on your head, hanging down, without tying it in any way.
Now say "Boo!"
No, seriously, now pull your headgear on over the bandanna. Tuck the loose bits of the bandanna out of your way, but there's no need to tie it on, the headgear should hold it firmly enough.
Now try sleeping with all that and see if the bandanna protects your hair/scalp from whatever is irritating you.
I know at least one forum member is doing this - she sent me pix of her.
Cheers,
Barbara

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.

I love my Buff, https://www.buffwear.com/catalog/index.php/cPath/1_5, and won't go to bed without it. It is easy to use, easy to wash, lightweight, cool, durable, protects my beautiful head of hair and I look quite fashionable in bed!!lori.julian@comcast.net wrote:I too have horrible head itching and hair loss on the back of my head. Re: Itching From Head Gear
IT WAS ROOSTER!!!!!
I bought my first Buff last week at the big REI flagship store in Seattle (I know, I'm so lame it was my first time there....). But I couldn't remember who told me to get one!
Anyway, I thought about using it for a band to wear over my mouthtape. I actually managed to turn it into a chinstrap/headgear/mouthband morph and wore it Sunday night.
It was... Okay. I decided the next night that it was kinda hard on my jaw after all, and I thought I'd just wear it as a mouthband. I'm still working on it.
It IS great fabric, and it's really kind of a nifty concept. Thanks for clueing me in, Rooster!!! I remembered the product, if not the messenger!!!
Attention Sleepguy - I want a PapCap made from Buff fabric.
LOL,
Babs
