M-Series / Smartcard Data Loss Bug ...

Post by rwalther » Sat Jan 26, 2008 8:43 am

Interesting ...

When I go several days without pulling my card and downloading my data, I see the "skipped detail day" that everyone complains about.

When I pull the card every morning and download ... I don't.

This bug seems to "reset itself" when you download every day.

My next "test" will be to simply pull out, and reseat the card every day ... but not download the data to see if a daily reseating of the card in the M-Series resolves the problem.

I'm do "Tech Support" for a living. Figuring out "workarounds" is part of my DNA.

NOT in my case. I have seen it even downloading daily. So Rusty, time for another workaround.

Since I have added an HC 150 and then a power strip, I have not seen it. Don't know that there is any association with turning the power on/off to the cpap unit more often just yet.

Hey, Welcome to the club.

I keep hoping some one that some one that knows more about them o and x thing a ma bobs than me would figure it out. I don't know of a better way to be appreciated than to figure out a work a round fix for this frustrating problem that Respronics says does not exist. Good luck!!

I think I have just resigned myself to missing a couple of days every month. And I download daily.

However, I don't cut the power to the machine off everyday. I may try that next time.

This sounds like a (power) Reset to me. Similar to what I have been doing while warming my HC150.

That might lead me to think either the firmware or hardware in the M series is at fault. Maybe it looses it marbles unless it is re-booted periodically?

I have seen many Fortune 500 Companies send out equipment like this, simply to meet their shipping schedule.

If you complain enough - they will give you something that works even worse. Go figure!!!

After awhile they turn into hot dog stands.

Nelson,

1) I would bet that the firmware will be updated on new machines once they have figured out how to fix it. I would also bet that they know about it.

2) Perhaps someone can explain to me how we would be able to update the firmware on our machines? The Smartcard is primarily to record data although a new prescription *can* be set up that way via the EncorePro software. Perhaps that's how firmware can be updated???? But EncoreViewer can't do that. So I would suspect that it might be a logistical issue?

3) That then brings us to the severity of the problem .... for those that want to download everyday and view each day's numbers, I can understand the annoyance. IMHO missing a day now and then is not a big deal. If I were bothered by it, I would try downloading every day and then erasing the card as some have apparently done with success. I just ignore it.

The answers are:
No!
No!
They wouldn't, we can't even set our clocks or turn down the lights. They aren't concerned with our wants, as long as we keep buying their product.

We can start a hundred threads, but they keep selling product and are immuned to what we want. With all their product fualts, I'd still rather have the Respironics XPAP, but they are trying hard to make me change my mind. It's a moot problem for me as I didn't buy into the latest and greatest "M", I have enough "Classics" for ten years.

GubbyCT: You don't suppose when they retooled for the "M"'s, they dropped their bag of marbles, and the one that controlled the data fell on the floor and went down the drain? It's probably still in that drain, and won't be found until Roto Rooter is called in to clean out the data clog. Jim

I do - I also think we are finally on to them.

ANY Firmware upgrades would likely have to be done at a Respironics service center or by their service tech.

On a side note - if you've never heard this, it is worth a listen.

Why would they fix a problem that doesn't exist? (that they're aware of)
