How do you wear your chinstrap

Post by jjposey » Thu Jan 24, 2008 10:22 am

I was given a chinstrap when I started cpap last Feb and have worn the same style chinstrap ever since with little problem. Put on the mask, then put on the chinstrap.
A couple of weeks ago I got a new mask. Don't know exactly, but I guess it was a disruption in my sleepy routine and for some reason I put my chinstrap on before I put on the mask. When I realized what I'd done I started wondering which way others preferred.
I think I prefer the chinstrap first then the mask.
Has anyone else experimented with the order or is it just me?

I think the general rule is chinstrap first, mask second.

However, IT'S REALLY UP TO YOU! Whatever works.

Me, I use the chinstrap AS headgear with my Nasal Aire II.

Cheers,
Babs

When I had my titration study they had me wear a chin strap and had me put it on after the mask.
I just never thought about it until I reversed it by accident.
It did help with strap marks on my cheeks and help hold my WILD hair in place better.
Thanks for your replies!

I don't need to wear one so far, so I checked off "other".

But the DME specified to me that the Chinstrap should go on first.

But, I say whatever works for you it the right way to do it.

I've tried it both ways, and wear it under my headgear because otherwise, it feels too constrictive. But when I tried it over the headgear, it really seemed to anchor things well. I still wear it underneath though.

For no particular reason, I started wearing my chin strap over my mask. A while back I tried the ol' strap first. Was okay, but I found that the strap helped stablize my Swift mask when I sleep on my side. So now it is definitely strap on top of mask. This just works best for me.

I used to wear one under my mask, but I trained myself to keep mouth closed, so I don't need it any more.. It has worked so far!
