Mckooi,
For some reason it does NOT detect your reader.

Does anything else work in that USB port?

You have to install the driver separately, after installing Encore Pro. Check the Hardware Profile to see that your SmartCard reader is installed.

Good Luck

ps. Also make sure Encore is not set to use 'serial' port reader.

Under Preferences > System Settings > check USB

Sounds like a Q? for the Master - J Skinner.

Did you put the database somewhere other than the default location or have you downloaded anything as of yet? Or is a permissions issue? Vista, eh?

Hi there, McKooi,

Vista doesn't like to autostart drivers unless you tell it to. So what happens is that the driver is not started and therefore it cannot detect the reader.

Now how to fix it: short-term fix is to use control panel for system to re-install the driver. Long-term fix is to tell it to automatically start when Vista starts ... I'm on wrong computer to check how but you can use the short-term fix until someone gives you the better one (or I get onto my other computer!)

Mindy

*IF* my brain is working correctly, use the "run" program under "accessories" and type in "services.msc". Find the Smartcard reader and switch it from manual to autostart.

Great, McKooi!

You may still run into the "disappearing driver" issue .... unless Vista has been fixed for that.

Mindy, your brain is working very well.

Mindy's message here just solved a big problem I had after migrating to a new computer. I successfully installed EP and the card driver on the new computer, and moved my user data from the old computer (running XP) to the new one (running Vista). The very first time I tried reading data from the card, no problem, worked like always on the old computer. But every time after that, "smartcard reader not detected."

A search of that phrase on this forum lead to this item and Mindy's post about autostarting the service on services.msc.

So, props to Mindy! You've helped solve another CPAP'er's problem! Thanks!

-Ron

Same problem I am having also. I will try that Mindy, thanks.

I also caught another thread from someone who installed the SP1 for Vista and had no more problems. I haven't done that yet since the download site advises to wait for it to be available to us users thru the auto-download. I am not sure why but am going to find it and download it myself.

My encore is still not working, but am STILL not giving up!

The "Services" list is also available under "Control Panel" \ "Administrative Tools".......which is where typing in that command takes you.
To me, it's faster getting there with a couple of mouse clicks then typing in the words.
