What's best to cushion nose bridge?

Post by nettermo » Tue Jan 22, 2008 9:56 pm

Almost a week with my new Quattro mask. DME has ordered me an extra small, but I'm using small size until it arrives. It's my favorite mask so far, but the darn thing left me with a red and sore nose bridge last night for the first time.

I plan to use a band-aid tonight to cushion my nose, but know this can't be a long-term remedy. Is there anything available for this purpose?

Thanks!

I use paper tape, with Moleskin on top of that. I t usually works. Also, your mask may be too tight, that is the primary cause of nore noses. If all else fails, try http://www.padacheeks.com. She sells a padded fleece nose bridge protecter.

Best of luck, and welcome to the forum!

I am ordering one of those today! I will be sure to let you know how it works out for me! Karen, the owner of PAD A CHEEK, is a super-nice and super-helpful lady.

Best of luck to you!

Karen is awesome.

Tried to think of more to say, but flattery is long-winded. The truth is simple and to the point.

Karen is awesome.

That says it.

I have to second the moleskin idea, that's really the way to go.

I also have a Quattro mask, and have had it for about 2+ months now. Unfortunately I do have to report that the majority of that time including the present day I have spent with a very sore, red nose.

I have used BandAids (which leak too much from their "slick" material), the PadACheek (which works great for the forehead but doesn't help my nose), silicone ear plug pieces (which just caused leaks and made the mask unwearable), and finally a piece of moleskin just big enough for my nose folded back on a piece of itself and held on my nose with a small piece of cloth medical tape just big enough to hold it in place. I still have to spend 10-15 minutes getting the mask fitted to a point where it doesn't whistle due to the tape, but I can get thru the night without an open sore developing.

However, on the downside, I still have a very sore nose that has developed one permanent indent where I had an open sore within a week of using the Quattro, and another area that is forming a new indent where I had a popped zit that has turned into a nearly open sore even with the moleskin (almost like a blood blister beneath the skin). TMI, I know, but it's very frustrating to want to wear the mask and wake up looking like Rudolph with a new sore everyday that just keeps getting worse and worse to the point that I have to stop wearing the mask for a few days to let it heal up some before I start the process again.

It's interesting to me that any abberation on your nose will tend to develop into an open sore even with proper padding. I wish I had a better answer for how to solve this, but the moleskin is still the best I've found. I'm really thinking of switching masks, but still deciding on one.

I have the quattro also and developed a sore nose too.

I adjusted the forehead knob all the way to 24 and loosened the forehead straps and tightened the chin straps...voila! My sore nose disappeared. Oh yes, and when I put it on I start with the chin part then the forehead part, which made the mask a bit higher on my forehead, thus giving my nose relief. You might try that.

Also, Padacheek makes a nose protection pad that will work also. I have two of them but with these minor adjustments, my nose returned to normal so I don't have to use them.

I use the Ultra Mirage Full-Face, but the wife uses the Quattro.

I would suspect that you have too much pressure on your nose. Like deglorious says, try turning the knob to take the pressure off your nose.

The Quattro has a very nice, w i d e seal at the bridge of the nose. It should take no pressure to keep it from leaking at the nose.

I like the looks of my wife’s mask so much I think I will try a Quattro for my next mask.
