I have a question, i have been on cpap for 3 years. And i still have problems with being sleepy during the day. As long as i am working or crocheting or working on the computer i can stay awake but if i sit down to watch tv or read i get so sleepy! Thankfully my sister and i work together so i dont even drive to work because i get sleepy BUT when i lay down to go to sleep and put my cpap on i am WIDE AWAKE! it usually takes a couple of hours to finally go to sleep. It drives me nuts! I told my dr and they just gave me something to make me sleep but that really does not help much. I am on meds for depression it started after the sudden death of my husband. But that is another long sad story. Can anyone give me any advice how to fight the sleep during the day, but still sleep at night???????
Day Time sleepy????

curleycat,
Personally, since I am not a Dr., I would recommend asking your Dr. for a referral to the sleep specalist that diagnosed you with the OSA. If you went to a sleep Dr. that is.? It sounds like you need to either have a new titration study to make sure the pressure is still correct or see if there is something else going on. I say this because I have OSA and narcolepsy. We did the study a few months ago to see why my EDS (excessive daytime sleepiness) had gotten so bad. That is when I found out I did not only have narcolepsy but OSA also. Now that I am on the cpap, and finally found the right mask, I do not have the EDS near as bad, it is back to how it has been before the last few years. It was extremely bad right before I was retested, I was sleeping all but about 4 or 5 hours intermittenly a day. So I really would suggest a new study. I would hope that maybe your pressure needs increasing, that you having more apneas because the pressure is not high enough to keep your airway open. I would definitely talk to your Dr. again. Good Luck.

Thank you Tina
I will talk to my dr. My pressure is 14 and i have just changed to a full face mask and my respatory thearpyist said she thought that i needed to change to a full face mask so i did. But it just does not really seem to help.
I did have a sleep study done and i guess maby i should have another study done.... I was told i had 130 apenas per hour.............

What kind of machine do you have? I'm guessing it doesn't collect nightly data. A better machine would probably be more cost-effective than periodic sleep studies as it would allow you to monitor what's happening on a nightly basis..
If you're dozing off in the evening before bedtime, that would explain why you're having trouble getting to sleep at bedtime.
Also, with a data-capable machine, you MAY find out that your prescribed pressure is not providing the best therapy.

I have a resmed S7 so it dose not collect the data i would like to have one that does. I don't feal like my dr are helping me nuch. If i say i can't sleep they just give me more meds and i don't like that. i dont take all that they give me. I dont want to depend on meds. I have taken myself off all but one and that is for depression. Because i can't hide from the world. ......

As others have mentioned, validate your CPAP setup and discover if you have other sleep disorders which can cause EDS (excessive daytime sleepiness) perhaps PLMD for example. In addition, your circadian sleep clock could be a miss. Research delayed sleep syndrome and think about your habits.
My weekday wake schedule is fairly consistent, but I can and have slept in on the weekends for years. Recently, for the past two weeks now, I get the hell-up and seem to feel a little difference. Of course, Provigil has been a great help too dosed first thing in the morning with a cup of joe.
My two cents, change your routine and minimize your meds as they tend to affect sleep efficiency in a negative way.
