SWIFT PILLOWS
SWIFT PILLOWS
Hi Everyone,
Well, my first night of using the "Swift" was last night and I give it a "10". I loved it!
I went to bed at 11:00 p.m. and I ususally wake up 2 hours later to go the bathroom but I did not wake up until 4:00 a.m. (having to go really bad). I guess I was sleeping so soundly that I slept through it. I used the small pillows and they seemed to work fine but will try the medium tonight and then the large, just to see which I like the best.
It was wonderful to open my eyes and not see all that "stuff" on my face or to feel it. The pillows are so light and comfortable. I had the hose going up on my left side and I slept on my right side but I turned to my left side with the tube in place and it was fine. I did not have to switch the tube from one side to the other. I run the long hose through a scrunchy that is on a hook on the wall at the head of my bed (no headboard) and it works great (a tip from one of these boards). The hose moves through it great without getting stuck and its out of the way.
I would say that the only (minor) drawback of it is that you can hear the air coming out of the little holes more than with the Nasal Mirage mask. I did not care because the trade off of having a lighter mask and less stuff on my face was worth every bit of it.
I will keep in mind what to use on my nares if they start to bother me but after one night, it was fine....no problem. Thanks for your suggestions.
Also, my SEDM (sleep equipment distributor man) has had his order for these for quite a while and all he was able to get right now was five of them. He is still waiting for the rest of his shipment. He said that when the Mirage mask first came out, he waited 2 months after the supposed arrival date for those also. I guess ResMed doesn't make enought of a product when they come out with it or maybe they are dumb like a Fox knowing that after they hype everyone up that making us wait will drive up the demand. Who knows? All I know is that I researched and found out they were coming out in August and told him that I wanted to be put first on his list even though I am a Newbie (7/20/04). I am so happy that I was able to get mine now instead of having to wait. I hope all of you who are going to get one do not have to wait and that you love it as much as I do (if we have to do this, and we find somthing that is more comfortable, we might as well love something about it....I guess?).
In summary, until something better comes along (and I will be in line for it), I will make the best of a bad situation. I have to tell you that I love this mask simply because it is light and it does not feel like a "mask". I give it a BIG TEN in my book.

Adam CPAP Circuit
Hi Judy
I'm using the Adam CPAP Circuit Nasal mask, with medium pillows. And glad I don't have a lot of mask on my face. Tubing goes over my head, with no problem turning from side to side, (being a side sleeper) that was important to me.
Does the Swift go over your head, and what is the scrunchy hook you mentioned?? I have very low headboard, and would like something to hold tubing in place or even.
Thanks
Jan

Hi Jan,
You can wear the hose up or down. They give you a small velcro strap if you want to wear it up. I tried to attach a picture of it but it would not come up so go to http://www.sleepestore.com and look under the masks for the ResMed Swift Pillow System.
As to the scrunchy idea. I put a plastic hook (glue back) on my wall and twisted a regular hair scrunchy (the ones that are on elastic and the material is all scrunched up on it and is used for pony tails) around it once and then put my long hose through it. I laid down on the bed and kinda figured out how high it should go above my head. I suppose you could get those hooks that 3MM make that when you take them off they don't leave glue and put it on your head board?
Let me know what you come up with.

pillow mask
Hi Judy
Thanks went to website you suggested, that does look like a comfortable mask. Think it's the head gear that gets me, with mine. At night in the dark don't get it back on good.
The Swift mask looks better and nothing coming over the head. Since you have used it for few days now, are you still happy with it ??
Saw one called the Nasal Aire II CPAP Mask by Innoned. Not sure I'd care for it, there is no way for tubing to be out of the way. Anyway the pictures they showed, tubing was in front of you all the time.

Swift
The Swift is an excellent system. I bought mine from cpap.com at
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/1433
They had the cheaper price.
I also tried the Nasal Aire and hated the tubing over the ears, plus the tubing pulled up around my neck. It compares in no way to the Swift.....

Mask difference
Hi Sam
Thanks for explaining the difference in the Swift and Nasal Aire. Swift looks like it would be more secure, also able to use with tubing up or down.
The head gear with my AdamCircuit is awkard for me to replace at night, without turning the lights on.
Good sleeping to all, am sure I'll get there one of these days.

Hi Jan,
Well, last night was the second night with my Swift and I slept from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with one time getting up to go the bathroom. It is so comfortable and when you open your eyes....no obstructions in your face!
I tried the medium nose pillow last night and tonight I will try the large. I want to see which one fits me the best and what is the most comfortable. I have no problem with the tube or the hose. Its so light and I really love it and give it a TEN.
Let us know if you get one and if you do, I hope you like it.

will order Swift
Hi Judy
Thanks for the update on your use of the Swift. Will call Apria Healthcare here today, see if they will order me one, if not will order it on line.
In meantime, will hook my tubing like you have, see how that goes, otherwise it pulls on the tubing, could be one reason I'm having problems, as I first go to bed. Along with I don't like all the headgear.
Thanks

Called the Healthcare store this morning (9:a.m), person that answered sounded very confused when I ask if they have or can order the Swift. She looked at what they have in stock, nothing for the Swift. Said she'd have the tech. call me later this morning. It's noon now and I haven't heard from anyone. time to meet friend for lunch.
Will let you know what if anything I hear from the Tech. today.
Thanks

Jan,
Tell them its new and its made by ResMed Swift Pillow System. They just came out August 23, 2004.
I think they are on back order in a lot of places but I am sure your Tech can order you one. I had to keep bugging my Tech and I finally called him on Monday of this week and said that I heard he had some. He said that he only had five and that the rest were back ordered. I told him that I had asked to be put first on his list originally and he said he would give me one. Its like pulling teeth with some of these Reps/Techs. If I were rich, I would buy my stuff outright from Ted Titrator who works for cpap.com.
Be persistent! After all you are the customer and the customer is always right!
Let me know,
Judy

called Tech.
Hi Judy
Got ahold of the Tech, said she'd research the mask tomorrow, and get back to me.
I'm going into town Tues. if I don't hear from her by then will stop in the healthcare store. I live 60 miles from town. I live in very small rural town. Can only hope to catch her then.
You can bet I'll bug them.
Thanks
