I have just started the CPAP machine and I use a nasal mask which is making the bridge of my nose very red and sore. it has also produced a large hard lump like a wart on it. It is very embarasing to walk around with a bright red nose and a large lump tiped with white dry skin on it. Any answers on curing this?

						Nasal Mask injuries
Others can better make suggestions on what to apply to the bridge of the nose to clear up the sore that is there.
If you click on the Red Ball w/the Question Mark in it at the top of the pages and scroll down to Mask Fitting Suggestions or similar topic you will find the hints that have worked for me that I've picked up thru experience, from my sleep lab manager who is especially adroit at mask fitting and from others in the forum.
What is happening in the thin outer cover over the thicker inner cushion of your nasal cushion mask or the cushion of the simple nasal cushion style mask is cutting into the skin on the bridge of the nose. This is most likely aggravated by the tendency that those of us new to CPAP are prone to: tightening our mask fit too tight.
The best thing you could do would be to switch to a nasal pillows mask if you can tolerate the more direct pressure into your nostrils until such time as the bridge of your nose clears up.
The next best thing would be to try the Mack's Silicone Ear Plugs tip to make a rope or tape of the silicone to improve seal and to keep the cushion edges off the bridge of your nose.
Good luck w/the healing quickly!!! (I vividly remember a bright, cherry red zit on the very tip of my nose as a teenager. MORTIFYING!! To add insult to injury the dang thing HURT too!)

First, let me welcome you to a great forum! I am glad to hear you are getting treated, and I hope that you will not let this problem derail your therapy. The most common cause of your problem is that your mask is adjusted too tight. The obvious solution is to loosen it. The second solution is to try a different mask, or go to a nasal pillow system. I have almost the same problem using an Ultra Mirage II. Loosening it lead to lots of leaks, so I added a layer of Mack's Silicone around the edge of the mask (just search using Mack's Silicone and it will provide you the thread) and now it is working just fine. I also tape some moleskin to the side of my nose which seems to be a sensitive area for me. Padacheeks makes a protector for the bridge of the nose too which I will be trying as soon as it gets here.
Otherwise, how is your treatment going? Are you feeling better? Sleeping more? Hopefully yes to all of these. Keep coming back to this forum for any questions, there are lots of very smart, experianced people who are happy to help anyway they can.

sore bridge of nose
I have occasionally had this problem and this is what has helped me. During the day I rub a little neosporin on it. Til the redness goes away, I put a very small piece of kleenex on the spot. I do this for awhile and everything clears up.
