Comfortlite exhaust holes blowing into eyes

Post by NeedinZs » Thu Jan 03, 2008 8:30 am

Hi All!

Happy New Year! Calling all Lab-rats!!

I can't be the only one that uses the Comfortlite that has a problem with the exhaust holes that blow directly into their eyes all night, can I?

Has anyone come up with any solution to this? I don't know if the air deflects off my pillow or what? It is definitely the air holes, and not leaks.
My eyes are all bloodshot and crusty this morning. I've spent the last several nights trying to figure out why this blows directly in my eyes.

I was thinking of cutting out some stiff paper (like posterboard?) and putting a hole in the middle to slip it through and onto the elbow, to try and deflect it outward more.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Gail

hi gail
a couple of weeks ago while waiting for my replacement "headrest" to arrive, i tried to use my CL2 to get by...no dice, and the air blowing into my eyes was one of the reasons

still loving that headrest, though

air in the eyes and hybrid mask

Post by Arizona-Willie » Thu Jan 03, 2008 3:58 pm

I use the Hybrid mask and I love it but I have the same problem. The exhaust holes are on the top edge of the mask and the air hits the sheets or my arm or whatever and deflects back into my eyes.

And, sometimes during the night it gets slightly dislodged and leaks and the leak seems to have a homing beacon in my eyes.

I have been thinking about putting on some swim goggles to prevent this.

Boy what a sight that would be a naked bald fat man with a hybrid mask and swim goggles on ha ha ha.

I use ointment and an eye mask

I had to laugh when I read that Arizona-Willie is considering swim goggles. I actually tried Speedos one night but man, were they uncomfortable! And when I removed them in the morning, my eyes were rimmed with wrinkles that were not there the night before. I tried the goggles because my ophthalmologist thought it a great idea. (He also thought my mask design was ridiculous.)

I suffer from chronic dry eye and the exhaust from my mask was making things worse. Here's what works for me, although it's probably not for everyone...

Just before I put on my CPAP mask and turn the lights out, I apply an over-the-counter lubricating eye ointment prescribed by the ophthalmologist (Refresh P.M. or Lacri-lube). Then I put on a soft cotton eye mask.

When I first tried the eye mask, I couldn't believe how much better I slept, not just because it deflected the air stream, but because it darkened my bedroom. Prior to this, I was unaware that the skylight in my bedroom was causing me to wake up too soon.

Thanks All!

Willie,

Funny as your reply was, it actually got me to thinking!! I tried my daughter's eye mask last night (in place of your goggles) and it worked like a charm!!
Still needs a bit of tweaking to align just right under the mask, but it is workable. I will try again tonight and see how it goes.

And then...I just now read that Papoose had the same idea.
And then I got an even bigger laugh, because I was imagining a different type of SPEEDO's!!

Thanks guys, for the laughs and the ideas!

I buy eye gel and use it at night and also the eye mask. The cl2 seems to blow much more air from the vent then other masks.

Your not the only one who thought of different type of Speedos LOLOLOL..My F&P 431 also blows in my eyes at times, my son has goggles and I am going to give this a try tonight..I am sure my husband will not mind me looking a little different when I go to bed..He is funny, he tells me to hurry up and get my mask on and turn on the machine so he can hear the machine sound and go to sleep..He told me when we have power outages he can't sleep without the sound of the machine
