Sleep Apneas' latest victim!!!

Post by TuckNRoll » Wed Dec 19, 2007 2:11 pm

I got my first sleep study done this Monday 12/17 and I can't wait to begin treating this horrible condition. I am 35 and have heard all the complaints from loved ones about how aweful my snoring is. My wife and I have separate bedrooms because she is a light sleeper and can not tolerate the "bear growling through a bullhorn" that I produce nightly.
I finally got insurance coverage through my job, and went immediately to my doctor to see about getting help with my problem. The sleep lab called me this afternoon and told me that the orders have been written for CPAP therapy and I should hear from my physician in the next day or so. I have worked (and still currently do) in the DME industry for 20+ years and thanks to my wonderful patients, learned about this AWESOME Website.
Fortunately for me, I know the DME industry, and how to not get taken advantage of. It is a sad fact that many DME companies are in the business for one thing and one thing only, and that is the almighty $$DOLLAR$$. Thankfully there are a good number of them who actually do care about the patient, and take their jobs seriously enough to not take advantage of patients to make more $$.
I would like to take this time to thank everyone who has posted in these forums, with their collective wisdom and some great tips and hints to make this therapy more bearable. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you and hopefully make some good friends who share in my (or I should say, my wife's) pains.

Hey-you aren't a "victim" and a "horrible" disease is one that can't be treated.

hiya Tucker,

You're just gonna be a "cpap user" and are lucky (as you already know) to get to be one.

Also lucky for you, you know the DME business. So you probably know how to get the exact machine you want and get to try out as many masks as you wish at home.

You're way ahead of the game and are going to have many nights of smooth breathing ahead of you. Lucky!!!

You were also lucky enough to dig into this message board. Utilize enough of the hints and tips, and you'll find sleeping with the stuff not only "bearable" but comfortable. Takes a good bit of tweaking to get it there, of course.

Here's a list of some topics you might find handy:
