Encore Pro v1.8 vs v1.7?

Post by jcranmer » Mon Dec 17, 2007 7:03 pm

Other then the Vista support, is there any reason to upgrade from 1.7 to 1.8?
I'm still running XP and have no interest in Vista. I'm planing on taking the Windows ME route and just skipping it all together, or at least putting it off as long as I can.

Has anyone actually upgraded from 1.7 to 1.8?
Anything to watch out for, or was it a pretty straight forward upgrade? I'm a pretty much a techie, (I'm a system admin by trade) but I would rather not mess up my working install for an upgrade if it's not going to gain me anything.

I upgraded from 1.7 to 1.8 and it was very straight-forward, quick, and uneventful.

No reason to worry, but not many good reasons to do it from an increased functionality standpoint. I only bought it to have on hand when, in the distant future, I go to a new computer with Vista pre-installed.

WOW!, Then as a System admin, someone should let you know that Windows ME, came before XP, and is the poorest excuse for a OP, that "Bill's" crew ever came up with, with maybe the exception of "Vista" which is likened to the New ME.

The only reason to upgrade is, running Vista, or buying a new XPAP, that requires 1.8, "M"agic w/ AFlex, Auto Bi-PAP Ect. Jim

Comparisons between ME and Vista are a bit hard to make. ME was still build on the DOS based version of windows and Vista is based on the NT kernel. Windows 2000 is in fact the precursor to XP.

Thanks Paul. That was what I was hoping to hear. On the other hand if there really isn't any new functionality I might just hold off a bit.

That was exactly the point I was trying to make. I used Windows ME for about a week, before blowing away the install and putting Win98 back on it. I'm considering doing the same for Vista. (Only without the one week trial!)

In other words sticking with XP until the next greatest OS from Microsoft

So far I haven't been overly impressed. My wife has Vista on her notebook. If it wasn't for the headache of tracking down the drivers, I would downgrade it to XP.
