LDuyer thanks you

Post by LDuyer » Thu Jun 02, 2005 9:09 am

In honor (dubious honor) of my 1000th post, I'm re-posting the following quote that I like so much (just saw it today):

Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Walk beside me and be my friend.
-Albert Camus, writer and philosopher (1913-1960)

I feel as if I've had many a friend here walking beside me. And every day I keep meeting even more.

For grins I looked back at my first post and the first reponses I got here when I too was a newbie back in November. I've always thought of it fondly, for I remember being so incredibly nervous and depressed over this whole treatment thing. Two cpaptalk members greeted me warmly. One no longer posts but is happily enjoying his cpap. The other, you all know.

The first person to respond to me was Mikerich10, who no longer posts. He wrote:

"I can appreciate your apprehension but believe me, it is a real medical condition. .... Just remember, we didn't get this sleep deprived overnight and we are not going to be fully rested and back to normal overnight either. But it is a journey worth taking."

The second person to reply was Wading thru the Muck. He wrote:

"As you are beginning to see you are not alone in this. This forum has many knowedgable and supportive people on it that are willing to help and give encouragement. I have been truely inspired by the help and encouragement I've received from this forum and the cpap website that sponsors it. Feel free to post any problems or questions you have. There are many fellow hoseheads that are ready and willing to help. Good Luck!"

I suppose Wader said it best.

Thanks everybody. I'd list you all, but you are so numerous and I wouldn't want to leave anyone out, especially since new friends seem to pop up here every day.

From LDuyer, who wants to keep her record at 1000......:

Alright. Mikesus has shamed me into naming names. This is dangerous, Mike, for I'm gonna miss someone by mistake. And there are countless folks who I met briefly who have been so nice and their usernames escape me. (cpap hasn't helped my memory any, darn it)

Yes, Mikesus, you get an honorable mention. Sheesh!! Even if you DID call me a turkey, and even if you can be an onery cuss. (like that? ) But I've enjoyed getting to know you, both here and back where we live. Although you've been away, being sick and with all sorts of life issues hounding you, you were quite the prolific poster, always providing some new link that had us all scurrying to read the latest and greatest.

Oh, and Rested Gal, the Queen of the forum, in my book. Amazing knowlegable woman who always comes with a disclaimer. Ha! I don't know what most of us would do without her here to guide us. And getting an appreciative nod from Rested Gal is like getting an honorable mention from God (I was gonna say Queen, but that might have been confusing).

Some of you I found to be so gosh darn different from how I first perceived you on this forum. SWS is one of those. So sage in his technical wizardry, but I found both privately and later on this forum him to be the most humanitarian fellow I've ever met. Sorry, that might not be the correct word, but no doubt he'll come up with the right one, and have me scurrying back to that dictionary for the umpteenth time. I owe SWS so much. Rock & Roll was another. Somewhat misunderstood in his earliest posts, and coming off seeming angry and yet serious about hoping this forum works for him, I found him to be a pussycat. A gentle soul with a wonderful way about him. Another bit of a surprise was Meister. He's still a bit annoying, but he makes me smile. For he is real nice to me when he's feeling down or sick, yet picks on me unmercifully when he's feeling good. So I always know when he's feeling good. You're spooky, but I like you Meister. And Liam..... 'nuf said. But I will say how much I enjoyed learning about the creative side of him, and about his gutsy article on depression and his prolific writing on his blog. He really should be a syndicated columnist!

And there's Unclebob, who inevitably has me laughing uncontrolably. I don't know this person very well, but he's cheered me so many times. And Neversleeps, well she is such a fan, I love her pleasant ways and gentle wit. I like BuffaloAl for getting me to explore poetry and appreciate (though never understand) the French language. Then of course Littlebaddow, so nice and friendly and making me dream of visiting England. Oh, I remember Jean from England as well. So many Canadians (is it the weather?) Speaking of Canadians, I have to also rethank Mikerich10 for him bringing music back into my life, for it had flown out the window during my pre-treatment depression. Oh, goofy, for being so nice and for putting me on her fun emailing list of fun stuff I can always look forward to every week. And recently loonlvr, for being so nice and lending an ear (goodness, were YOU a surprise!). So may others, from near the Hudson Bay, to Oregon and Washington State. Lots of Chicago folk. Tenpin, and oh, my recent new friend, Quebec Bert, my Frenchman from Quebec. Gosh, as a posted "guest" I can't edit this to include those I've missed. For there are so many, at least three other from my area who have helped me in so many ways. Everyone who has come and gone here has been great, and always interesting. I can't wait to read more.

"Thanks" Mikesus, for forcing me to make this Academy Award speech. Sheesh. See what you make me do? ...... Consequences, there will be consequences.

Dear Linda,

Congrats on the milestone. You are a great asset to the cpapers, newbies, poets, word-o-philes ( I'm sure you'll find a word for that), and everyone who comes and goes on the forum.
There are those who stick to the topic, provide us facts, links and more information than I could ever grasp. There are those who add the fluff, that makes it for me, a place to come back and browse for fun.
You are the great go between. The one who does it all. Tying together fluff, heifers, masks and pillows, cleaning ideas, with a flair for the language that makes it all interesting to read.
So to your collection of peeps, ostriches and doves, add yourself an Arctic Tern avatar, the great go-between of the world. The only bird that flies from arctic to antarctic to enjoy year round sunshine.

Linda, I wholeheartedly agree with you. The members in this site are wonderful and they sure give encouragement when it is most needed.
I also would like to thank everyone here for their useful information. Have used the C-PAP machine a little over a year now and still read the posts for more information. Thanks everyone. You may be posting to answer someone else, but your answers to them helps many of us others.

Thanks Alan,

Your words meant alot to me. That's one of the nicest things ever said of and to me. Thanks. The Great Go Between, eh? Wow. Noone has ever called me that before. I like it. And the Arctic Tern, I never heard of that. I will certainly look for that. Gosh, I learn something new from here every day. Thanks so very much.

Dot, thanks too. I'm glad you've gotten so much out of this forum and the people here. I try to explain to official types of people who don't understand discussion boards, that for those of us who are newly diagnosed with sleep apnea, we come to the internet not just for information, but for support. There's a difference. It is information from those who have been there. We need information, but we crave support. Not everyone uses the internet, but for those who do, these support discussion boards are a godsend, aren't they? Thanks.

And Loonlvr,
"Blabbermouth," eh? Hahahah! That's me! You nut.

Thank you, Doug. That was nice.
Looks like I've spent far too much time on the internet, huh?
