Fisher and Paykel HC100 and HC150 differences.

I recently acquired a Fisher and Paykel HC100 humidifier and at the same time the HC150 humidifier.

I have been using the HC100 the last few nights. I had to order a new water chamber, but the chamber will work on either humidifer. The HC100 works great and seems to be keeping up with our dry house humidity, using between 1/4 to 1/2 tank of water per night. I top it off each night.

Beside the HC150 having the ambient feature are there any major differences between the two humidifiers?

I tried to find a HC100 manual on the internet but haven't had much luck.

Lucky you Carol - I am searching for one myself, so I will be following the responses here.

Since it has gotten colder my M series humidifier can't seem to keep up and even in the morning is blowing cold air on your nose. Plus some reason the heater on the M does NOT come on until the blower is on.

Anyway, Lucky You girl.

Those are the reason Gumby that I decided to get the Fisher and Paykel humidifier. My M series was dry after approximately 8 hours and didn't have the luxury of being able to turn it on prior to use to warm it.

I listed on craigslist that I was wanting to purchase a Fisher and Paykel Heated Humidifier HC 150 and the same man had both humidifiers and gave me a decent quote on them so I bit the bullet and purchased both -- one to use and one as a back up. I had to buy the water chamber and the short hose, and saved approximately $50.00 over purchasing a new one.

You might try listing on craigslist for one if you are interested and see if you get any responses.

There is very little difference between the HC100 and the HC150 other than the ambient temperature feature and a slightly new look to the base. They use the same chambers and both seem to work forever (except for the disposable chambers).

I have both the 100 and the 150. I don't have the manual for the 100. As far as I know, the "Ambient Tracking" is the only difference. I couldn't tell that that feature made any difference. Both seemed to work equally effectively and use same amount of water for me.

I always kept either one's heat pretty low. Maybe "Ambient Tracking" would make a difference if I had to have the heat turned way up. Dunno.

Curious about those "disposable" water tanks--I just got my F&P 150, and it included two water chambers. Why must they be disposed of? Do they wear out? Does F&P make a "permanent/non-disposable" water chamber for these humidifiers?

I am unsure how long the chambers last. cpap.com apparently only carries the "disposable" or "single patient" chamber. It appears that it would last a length of time as it appears well made.

I did find a permanent chamber or multi-user chamber on another site. The cost was over $100.00 on that site plus shipping. I figure I can purchase several of the single patient chambers for that if needed.

I have been very pleased with this humidifier and wish I would have purchased it originally instead of the m series intergrated system. Oh well if I need to take it with me the intergrated unit will pack easier.

Same here--wishing I'd known about the F&P before I bought my M series integrated one. But, like you, I think it will be better for travel, so I'll keep it. Yes, $100 is a bit steep--really can't figure what would wear out on these chambers, seems like they should last a long time.

I agree with you Ted on the "disposable" chamber. It should last for a very long time. I bet it outlast most masks and hoses and at the cost is easily replaceable if needed.

The plastic "disposable" chambers do last a long, long, long time. Years even.

Especially if you use only distilled water in them. And don't step on 'em.

I have 4 of the disposable reservoir chambers. I have been using the same one for a year now and it is as good as new ... clear and clean ... no molds, mildew, or algae. I have rinsed it out with tap water maybe 4 times and that is about it. I thik the less you mess with it the better and longer it lasts ... just refill w/ distilled water and PAP the night away. Of course now I have 3 more that I don't know if I will ever use

The Disposable chambers can fail in as little as 100 days if you use tap water and that water is slightly acidic. It corrodes a hole through the bottom of the base plate from the inside out. Few locations have such an extreme problem. If anyone has a problem, switch to distilled water or buy a HC300 Humidifier Chamber from our host ($80.00) or wherever. These have thick stainless steel bases, can be opened for cleaning and last longer than I know.

cpapexchange.com has the permanent water chamber for $60 + shipping, but I understand that cpap.com will match their competitors' lowest prices. And, I know cpap.com is great to deal with! I ordered a product from one of their competitors (before I knew about cpap.com's price guarantee policy), and received no shipment confirmation until a week later, even though they promised to ship within one business day; I called daily, never got anything other than voice mail, and never received a return call to the messages I left. Live and learn!
