5000 hours on APAP
5000 hours on APAP
I just surpassed 5000 straight hours on my APAP. Yep, I've used it for 5000 straight hours since the day I got it with the rare exception of a power outage.
Its made a world of difference to me in many ways, namely energy, mood, and memory.
In fact, I will NOT sleep without my APAP unless I have no power. The sequelae of one night of apnea are too severe. If that is the case, I have an oral appliance that decreases my apnea but not nearly as well as the APAP.
Over my 5000 hours, I have tried about 6 masks. I found 2 that I liked quite a bit.
So I wanted to post to encourage those of you who have had trouble adapting. It will make a huge difference in your life if you comply. Try a bunch of different masks.
Here are some tips from a APAP "pro"
1. Wash your nasal pillows or face mask interface daily with real soap to remove oils and ensure a tight seal.
2. Wash your face or nares nightly with SOAP to remove oils for the same reason. Do not use Dove or some similar "moistureising" product. You want to remove oils, not increase them.
3. Get the australian heated hose to eliminate condensation and make winters tolerable
4. Use a humidifier with DISTILLED water. If the water is not distilled, the minerals will build up in your humidifier and make cleaning difficult
5. Spend the money and try a bunch of masks until you find the right one.
